| Pianissimo User | I have played the Jazz's predecessor, the Bb Symphonique. I've never played a more difficult horn. It felt very stuffy at the mouthpiece and no matter whether I tried to play through the horn and blow out the back wall or play a controlled pianissimo, I couldn't make it work for me. The owner sent it back to Lee Adams, who now is the owner of the Callet line, for some work. According to Lee, he bored the leadpipe .002", in .001" incrememts, until he got what he felt was supposed to be the correct feel. Once that was done, the horn really opened up and the sound was so much better, much less effort needed to get the great sound Callet's are known for! Don't dismiss other's opinions but be sure you play one before you buy. Better yet, play as many as you can get your hands on before you spend the bucks. My understanding is they can be as difficult to pick the "right one" as are Bachs these days!

BS and BS.......I play a Jazz and it is not a "bottomlees pit when it comes to air usage" I have a feeling that is the player, not the horn. Also, I have personaly sat next to Jerome Callet and heard him play. He has a better and bigger sound than anybody that I have ever heard.....below, and above Dbl C. Brian, What is your problem with Callet Jazz? Is this gonna be the next Zues? If the horn doesn't work for you, that does not make it a bad horn.

![]() ![]() | A friend has a Callet Jazz. I borrowed his horn while waiting for my Lawler to come back from plating. My thoughts were; "this thing is pretty nice nice. A little stiff, but it plays well up into the upper register. By the end of the rehearsal I was saying "Man, I am I glad I don't have to play this thing all night!" For me, it takes a LOT of air to fill. It is a nice sounding horn, but WAY too much work for me. I could not play it on a job and be happy. -cw-

![]() | Didn't know this would cause such a heated post. I like the horn a lot. It doesn't take much air at all for me to play. The sound is almost cornety with a legit mouthpiece, but is bright with a lead piece. Couldn't ask it to do anything else. The new Yamaha Shew is really nice too, though! |
