They tryed to get a better market quote making instruments in the USA, but sales were not increased in accordance with the investment they did. It is very sad. Less working positions. It is very sad. Many of my friends here in Grand Rapids, Mi. worked there for many years. In my 'accumilation' I have a Yamaha trumpet made in their first Grand Rapids plant, Gene Pilchuk and Wendell Harwood in a corner of the basement at Ferrell Music Store, a git fiddle store. They were assembling brass parts shipped in from Japan. The moveout by Yamaha has definately hurt the rather fragile economy of this area quite heavily and put a lot of people out of work. OLDLOU>>
