![]() | Funny Picture Trumpet Flexibilities ![]() POEM Trumpet, Dad, and Son Larry Woods He once heard a sound, So full rich and round. He was just a young lad, Is that really his Dad? He can still hear the ring, How does he make that brass sing? He felt something inside, A force he can not describe, Like the rush of a ride, Something weird, was it a vibe? In a flash the music was done, Could one learn that, maybe his son? The years go by, the sound not again heard, Then one day at school, as clear as a bird, The band man plays on a horn, The vibe and feeling reborn! He longed for a trumpet, cornet, or flugel, He had little money, so had to be frugile. He bought his first horn, just an old bugle, After a while, moved on to the flugel. The years pass us by, Dad gets sick and dies. I want him to hear, I long for the day, We’ll be again near, The two will then play. Why I should win this contest That's a really tough question. Thinking about that, I realize there are other people that deserve the great prize Leigh is offering more than I do. God has blessed me so abundantly, it would almost be embarassing to win. I am already so blessed, winning this prize would be like overflowing riches. Anyway, here are a few reasons that may be considered: 1) If the Eclipse horn plays as I suspect it does, I could stop "investing" in horns purchased off eBay. This would benefit not only myself, but my family and others as well. 2) Less time on eBay would allow me more time to a) spend with family, b) serve/minister to others, and c) practice, resulting in better musical ability to worship God with (I play almost exclusively in Church settings and really feel that beautiful music enhances the worship experience for all present). 3) The beautiful Eclipse trumpet would be put to good service in worshipping God. I can only imagine how great it would be to glorify God using the best instrument (trumpet) built with the best craftsmanship (Eclipse). I can just hear it now, from heart touching lyrical passages with resonant overtones and an eery core to the sound to exciting praise choruses played 8va at FFF ringing to the heavens moving even the most hardened hearts closer to God. 4) And finally, in brutal honesty, I must confess my own sinful nature and admit that I am selfish and also want this great horn simply because it would be fun to have. Thank you Leigh for having this contest. I have enjoyed reading the other entries and my family had fun experimenting with different pictures to submit.
