![]() | Re: Cryo Freezing: An Experiment Recording will not show you anything, unfortunately. There are far too many variables over which you will only think you have control. It's time to get out the Toyota Trumpet-playing robot. Even then, you'd not learn much. The only real comparisons to be made are side-by-side, at the moment and even then it's difficult unless a change is radical. My understanding has been that only heat can change brass temper, that there is no going back once a metal has been exposed to great heat since heat is energy. With cold, there is a thaw and then eveything reverts to what it was, is that incorrect? Isn't cold a great lack of energy, with molecules slowing down to zero movement? Just asking, I really don't know. ML |

| Forte User | Re: Cryo Freezing: An Experiment Eric- He presents some good information there. But the thing that really bothers me is that he one who offers cryogenic services. So ALL of his information, then, (in my eyes) is suspect. He even admits that claim in the first paragraph. In his closing, he uses the word "proves" in conjunction with his research. That closes the deal for me. Anyone who is looking to "prove" something with research will prove it. (This is called advocacy). Good research does not "prove" anything. It can indicate trends, show consistency or inconsistency, duplicate results, etc., but does not attempt to prove.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Cryo Freezing: An Experiment I remember there was some kind of extensive test done on Cryo by some of the members of the TPIN trumpet email list. I'm not sure if that list has an archive section but it would be worth checking out if you are interested. |

| Pianissimo User | Re: Cryo Freezing: An Experiment I just heard back from the cryo guy and "The Twins" are going to chilled end of January free of charge! I will take pictures and report details. One way or another it will be an educational experience. I all goes well, I am considering getting frozen as well as it reducess stress in the build process, ha. Maybe I will stay in awhile and thaw out 100 years from now. Manny should be just entering retirement by then and I can challenge for his spot?

| Pianissimo User | Re: Cryo Freezing: An Experiment Hey Trent, That would be great and your impressions would be very interesting! My thinking is that cro freezing would be awesome IF it really could age a newer horn with those same "sonic intangible" qualities of a vintage model without the wear and tear of an older instrument. I use the word "intangible" because it would be difficult to measure scientificly. Let us know what you discover if you go through with it!
