How does it play/sound? I have played the 4 Eclipses Bruce brought to Mobile (medium, classic, red, & equinox). Any comparisons to these would be appreciated. Thanks. Mike |

Let me clarify that it is most likely Noel doing the playing, not Leigh! Leigh is still waiting for his first lesson. I'm afraid that if he were to ask Noel, Noel would take up smoking again. Thanks for remaining sensitive to that, Leigh! Perhaps Noel will stop by, and give us his impression, soon! Best, Bruce |

It's quite fluid in the mid range and kind of glides over everything with a light fluffy tone, ALMOST like a flugel but not quite. In the upper register it turns into a really nice core and can brighten up a lot with air. I think it would make a GREAT sounding lead horn for someone who could use it. Also, it would do some killer solo work. Definetly my kinda horn. I'd put it closest to the large red. -J -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Medium bell Eclipse Scratch Gold 37H Bach in Gold plate 3c |

The sound is very 'soft' in tambre (not volume), but it also has a degree of mass behind it. The response to the player is rather quick, and the heavier bell doesn't allow the sound to get lost in the 'cloud'. If you take a LR eclipse in laquer, darken the sound a little with a bit more 'presence' while retaining the silky soft properties....man, you just gotta play the thing. Words aren't doing a very good job of explaining the sound Logged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eclipse LR Scratch Gold Eclipse CP* Scratch Lacquer Eclipse Banshee GR64MS,S,Z* I asked God for the dubba & he gave it - now if I can just get all those other notes.... |
