The US Dollar price will remain consistent, despite the fluctuations in the Euro. Eclipse.UK. pricing will also remain steady, and perhaps it would be best to contact Leigh, regarding pricing in Europe. Had a little glitch in logging on, so I took out a new user name. Maybe I'll save it for the Eclipse trumpets posts, so as not to confuse everyone. What I'm REALLY saying is this: If you are interested in an Eclipse trumpet, please contact either Leigh, or me, and we'll be happy to answer any questions that you might have. Thank you! Best always, Bruce |

We started out on the website with these set prices and the US price does not sway so much but the Euro is terrible. The US & Euro prices should have been taken off of the site a while ago actually, but its my fault! (i hold my hand up guilty as charged) The best for all concerned is to ask for a current and up to date quote from each countries dealer , this info can be found on our Website. Should you be from a country not represented as yet, then feel free to contact me direct and deal with us directly. Oh and Tootsall, the links you sent me were fantastic, what a beautiful place you live. I particularly liked the look of those lakes as i love to fish! Find out for me if they will sell me that piece of land just to the right of that Lake? , just enough to build a nice house and a trumpet factory Regards Leigh Logged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.eclipsetrumpets.com |

| I posted the following in another thread. Since this one talks about cost, I thought that it was worth repeating. Hiya, Tootsall! I'm invoking the "oooopppss" clause! ( Sorry.... pet peeve!) Here are just a very few prices for other instruments/tools of the trade; all professional line: Yamaha Flute: $3,958.00 Yamaha Alto Sax: $4,000.00 Tenor: $4,300.00 Bari: $8,600.00 Bassoons: Fox: $14,500.00 to $17,000.00 Clarinets: Buffet: R-13 "Green Line": $3,492.00 - $3640.00 All of the above are Pro, and most are on the "low-side", as far as cost is concerned. Also, keep in mind that a HUGE corporation, like Yamaha, that sells motorcycle, jet-ski's, appliances, etc., can afford to offer their items at a discounted rate to their dealers. In fact, most professionals are on MUCH higher quality instruments than the ones listed above! For the "reed suckers", add the annual cost of reeds... something that "they" take for granted. Box of 10 - Sax: $10.00 - $25.00 (Rico - very average quality.) Additionally, note that out of a box of 10, 5 or 6 may be of reasonable consideration, or a "good one". So, not being a "reed sucker" myself, I would "guesstimate" the annual cost from $250.00 to $500.00, for a working professional. We won't even go into what they might pay for a custom mouthpiece. Oh, heck... I brought it up, why not? Let's just mention Tenor Sax mouthpieces; reasonable professional, worth consideration: $300.00 to $500.00 - WW&BW - discounted. Wonder why it is so difficult to fund an orchestra? Firstly, throw out the "wild card" cost of a musical education. Next, let's just take a "sneak peak" at what violinists might pay for their "reasonably good quality" professional "tools of the trade": Bow: $8,000.00 - $12,000.00 Violin: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 Sooo..... see how ridiculously spoiled WE are? Especially since we are talking about "custom built" trumpets... not to mention mouthpieces that we can use every day. Since we like to "justify" the outrageous cost of our instruments, here's a good analogy.: How much would you pay for a riding lawnmower? (Cuz we KNOW we're not pushing one... NO WAY!) And, how often would you mow? Golf courses tend to mow fairways, tees, and collars... twice a week, and greens... three times a week. Too much work for a trumpet player!!! Once or twice a week... MAX... for a 6 to 12 month season, depending upon climate. Add gas, oil, and maintenance. You do the math. There ya have it, sports fans! I COULD go on. No offense, Ed! Steppin' down from the "Soap Box", Bruce |

| Fortissimo User | Hey ho there Bruce. No, I'm not complaining about the cost of horns. I have a daughter playing tenor sax AND violin. (Have you checked out the price of bows lately?... I've heard of pros playing in the range of $30,000 JUST FOR THE BLOODY BOW!!! I met a young lady from Japan whose mother has a Bosendorfer piano in the living room...$150,000). I also have a daughter finishing off her degree in French Horn Performance and she's started talking crazy talk about "Alexander", "Berg" (a custom maker), and something else I can't even pronounce. Why? Her leadpipe is starting to develop red rot after 9 years! (I told her...get a new leadpipe installed). Nope, we do have it "easy" when it comes to cost of a decent quality instrument. (Although I did manage to score a mint Yamaha YTR61 tenor sax for $500 Cdn for the youngest one.) Sax (and clarinet) reeds? The latest trend in non-professional circles is to the plastic reeds and especially with school children or relative beginners. They seem to be less sensitive to humidity changes and, for the price, are a better buy. Taking your example of a box of Rico (yup...junk...try La Vox), and throwing half of 'em away (or using them for only one practice until they are deemed "unsuitable" or they chip or crack), you are looking at shelling out $25 to $30 every month or two for "darling's reeds" (this would be the same child who leaves the reed on the mouthpiece, doesn't use the mouthpiece cover, etc). You can buy a plastic one...make certain it is a good one (the store I buy from will accept a return if one is faulty) for the same price as a box of bamboo and it lasts at least four months as long as it is taken care of. Everything else being relative, however...when we start talking about "Eclipse, Lawler, Marcinkiewicz (I have no idea why I can spell that without looking it up), Taylor, Smith & Watkins, et al... we are certainly in "la creme de la creme" of instruments. |
