Hi, Liad,

From what I have read all Eclipse trumpets have about the same playing characteristics, but there are variations in the sound characteristics. For example, a medium bell horn made from yellow brass does not sound like a medium bell trumpet of red brass. There are a lot of combinations of bell sizes, horn weights, construction materials, etc. I would like to know a little more about how the different sounds compare. And it would help, I think, to expand the written description of the sound profiles with a suggested application for the affected horn.

I know Noel has posted a lot of information about different configurations of horn style and construction materials, but I would like for someone to take it a little farther and say, "This horn has a medium bell from red brass, and if I was playing such and such a gig, I would select this horn first. This other horn has a medium yellow brass bell, and if I was playing such and such a gig, then I would choose this horn first". And I think this information would be helpful on the Eclipse web site.

The reason I think this is that most players are like me. I have never held or played an Eclipse. I have read every review of one I can find, and I've communicated with Bruce Lee about them. (Bruce is a friend of mine: I talk to him about a lot of trumpet related stuff). But were I to attempt to order one, I would not know what to order. Since I am never likely to have a collection of different models to select from, if I ever have the opportunity to order one, I better get it right the first time. I think a little more in depth description of their respective sound characteristics would help.

I hope this helps illuminate what I was trying to say in my original post. And by the way, yes I do sometimes eat steak for breakfast. If you ever get back to Texas, please let me know. I'd be most pleased to treat you to a Texas steak too.

Let's hear it for the Lone Star State!

Ok guys, a bare bones bell page is up on the site, MORE WILL FOLLOW. Noel will most likely be the one writing the descriptions for the bell sounds, that will be the meat of the bell page. What is on the page now is relevant, but not quite what people are asking for.....YET. Give me a little time... :)

Hi Guys!

You are all right and we should have a place on the Eclipse site explaining exactly what each bell is about.

Noel Langley is taking care of this at the moment and the info will be up shortly.

I am also hoping to have sound clips up for each bell as soon as i possibly can, which i believe will help also.

Regards

Leigh

Hey, Skip!

I think that everyone should have to fill out that Excel "Characteristics Chart", after having played their Eclipse for two weeks. Whaddya think? :o

The hard part, for me, was determining where your Schilke B-1 fit in the mix, as that was based upon my memory of a particular horn, not yours. Each horn tends to have its own playing characteristics, so, I did my best to contrast its characteristics in comparison with the Eclipse trumpets.

At least I was able to return the "favor" by having you fill out a "GR Technologies Questionnaire".

Since your Eclipse Large Red/Scratched Gold should be arriving today, Skip... your "report" is due on January 2nd, 2004.

Happy Holidays!
Bruce

You sent me something? Hey, if you used my hotmail addy, use this one, hotmail is heavily spam-filtered. You probably won't get through.

Hey Bruce,

I thought that GR report was adequate payback - didn't you? -HeHeHe

No problem, I'll be happy to fill in my Excel "Characteristic study" and get that back to you. Let's see now where did I put that? Oh no, could I have deleted it? Hope not. Well, I have a hard copy, so if I did delete it, I can regenerate it. And Jan 2 is plenty of time (as long as my LR shows up today - HeHeHe).

But Bruce, unless you sent me one of each of the other horns in my chart, I won't be able to fill it out completely - only the B1 & LR. You did send me one of each though, didn't you? Thanks.

Jarrett,

I did send a letter, along with the same chart as the one Bruce filled out for me. I sent them to you & Gary at the Email addresses that came up when I clicked on the E-mail link at TH when you guys were still posting there. I also sent one as a follow up to the E-mail address from Gary's web site, when it was up & working. Sorry if you never got them. Ask Gary if He received any of them? I can retype it, and regenerate the chart, if you would really like one.Thanks.

Jarrett & CB,

I only saved the one copy that I had sent to Gary (castle_bravo@lycos.com), so I am not sure what the other E-mail addresses were. Thanks.
