Hi everybody. Some of you may know me from my posts on the Trumpetherald and on the Maynard Ferguson board. I'm John Hines. I play trumpet full time and I live and work in New York. I play a variety of gigs and different styles of music, but I mainly work in the Jazz/Commercial field. Lately I've been doing alot of work on Broadway, sometimes as a section player, but mainly as a lead player.

I wanted to let you all know that I recently met Felix at his showroom on 48th St in Manhattan. He had invited me down to meet Anton Possegger and play some of the prototype trumpets that Anton had brought with him from Austria.

When I got there, I told both Felix and Anton what I was looking for in a horn. I told them that I was looking for a freeblowing horn with alot of sizzle, one that would be appropriate for playing lead.

I'm used to pushing my horn pretty hard to get the sound that I want. When I played the Possegger that was handed to me (lightweight body, brand new bell design), that sound that I strive for was THERE. I didn't have to push it hard. It was just THERE. And then when I DID push it, it was OH MY GOD....

The Possegger is an amazing instrument. If it merely played and sounded great, that would plenty to ask for in a trumpet. But the quality of material and workmanship are second to none, and the valves by Bauerfeind are the best that can be found anywhere.

Did I mention that I've placed an order to have Anton Possegger build a custom trumpet for me? I can't tell you how excited I am about getting this new trumpet. The horn I'll be getting is based on the horn that I described above (I played a few other horns and configurations that day as well). I'll be posting again in the future to let you all know about the specifics of the horn, and of course my complete review when I get the horn in hand and get to play it a bit.

I have to agree that Felix is up to some "amazing stuff", but I'll add that he is an absolutely terrific person, and a great guy to work with. Thanks to Anton and Tony G, and special thanks to Felix.

All the best

TC

I can't wait to get my custom Stage 1 NY model (an NYTC Possegger trumpet with Felix's design and finish from Eclipse) which I've ordered. Felix has been a real pleasure to deal with and he has answered every question I've sent him without hesitating. That's customer service for you.

I only wish I could visit his store in New York, but since I live in Norway that's not easy to do.

Sooner or later I'm going to get me a new flugelhorn. I have no doubts on who to turn to.
