Re: Getzen eterna with bach 37 bell

Peened the second valve? What do you mean, dented it on purpose? Never even heard that term before.

If it helps me to play higher than it is worth it. I'm going to take a hammer to my horn first thing tomorrow morning because I trust Huggy. Maybe someone should say something if I shouldn't do it!

Schwab,
Yes, The small second valve slide had about six small dents. We call that peening in the metals industry. As though one took the ball end of a ball peen hammer and dented the slide.
Somebody ask Dave Monette about this. I have never heard of turbulance improving intonation. Does the second valve f sharp and B need tuning? Maybe he is thinking of golf balls.
It looked awful. Is this saying we need high surface roughness inside the tubes so the airflow sticks to the tube walls? I can see a new trend in marketing coming.

Re: Getzen eterna with bach 37 bell

I have seen the tuning slide and part of the bell peened. It can raise the temper of the metal and make it "ring" more. I have never heard of the second valve requiring any special attention. I think the previous owner had a dent and found a story to match the repair technique...........
