![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Brett, I really respect and admire you so OPENLY addressing this issue. As a Getzen owner I own a Getzen Capri Cornet which I just love; I feel damn proud! Thanks again for what is in my opinion "unprecidented customer service"

![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis OK, here's the latest update. We got the test results back on our sample gold plate. Everything looked good, but the amount of gold was a little thin for my blood. For those that don't know, this whole issue was brought on by the fact that the gold plate we previously had was too thin. This allowed the silver plating underneath to migrate through the gold and tarnish as it moved. Those that had the spotted horns know exactly what I am talking about. Anyway, right now the layer we have is thick enough to cover without problems according to our plating consultant. However, it is on the thin side of the scale. Rather than taking any chances, we want to over plate, for lack of a better term, and error on the side of caution. This should give us a more uniform, longer lasting, and better looking gold finish. While it will cost us more in gold, have you seen the price per ounce lately, it will pay off in a finer finished product. So where we stand now is that tomorrow I am going to have another horn prepared for a test plate with adjustments made to the time and temperature in order to get the color and thickness we want. Hopefully the results will be right on and we can finally get on with warranty work and production horns. I know, I know, it's about time right? Brett Getzen |

![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Might be a dumb question, but it you put it on too thick - will you effect the "resonance" of the bell??? I loved the sound of my Getzen before I sent it back (a 3001MV)... |

![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis I suppose it would, but it would have to be pretty thick. Remember, we are talking about millionths of an inch here. Rest assured, you won't be getting a horn with a full ounce of gold on it. Brett Getzen |

![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis At this point, I'm trying to figure out what was worse. Having bad gold plating or trying to do our own. Right now we are waiting to hear back on the latest thickness test. We are also tweaking the color again to achieve a richer appearance. Hopefully that won't take more than one more attempt. Fingers crossed. Brett Getzen |

| Mezzo Forte User | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis I never would have thought plating an instrument would take so much care and precision. I am glad you do take the time to make sure it is right though. for 5 years I played a Bobby Herriot Getzen Eterna with upswept bell. Great horn, but I needed to switch to something with a normal bell for gigs where it wasn't appropriate. |

![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis You have no idea. Not only is the initial setup intensive and time consuming, the cost is up there. And it doesn't stop there. There is a great deal of care taken to ensure that the finished, plated horns are just right. There is a reason a lot of manufacturers don't do their own plating choosing instead to outsource it. ![]() ![]() | Re: Gold Finish on Getzen Genesis Is there a chance you will plate other brands of instruments? Will you gold plate mouth pieces?
