Oh yeah, its all about the vanilla Zaja!

Is Zaja Blue really that much better than the other Zaja oils?

Re: How often do you oil your valves?

I oil about every 3-4 hours use. I swab the leadpipe daily; tuning branch, a couple times/week. Mouthpiece, at least weekly. The horn gets bathed when the daily/weekly cleanup isn't cutting it.

Valves should be WIPED DOWN (to remove deposits) each time you get it out, with clean, LINT-FREE cotton cheesecloth. Cut the cheesecloth into little squares (1 1/2" x 1" is great) and keep a stack of clean squares in little baggies inside your case until needed. Discard the cheesecloth after use.

Doing so, you'll be extremely amazed at the crud that comes off on the cheesecloth.

Then, re-oil the valves well before using! Also, give the horn a good, cleansing bath about once a month that includes scrubbing the inside valve casings with a nylon valve cleaning brush, followed by running a clean, lint-free cotton rag through each casing, followed by liberal re-oiling as above.

You'll NEVER have a valve problem, and your horn will play and respond as new for many years to come.

T.

.... I wish I had the time to do this. Or, I should say, I wish I would take the time to do this at least once per week.

I oil before I play each day. I do not use the oil sparingly. I use ample oil. This oil wash will clean the crud off the piston and cylinder walls. This crud will collect in the bottom valve cap or on your clothes. Keep your bottom caps clean and oil often.

Re: How often do you oil your valves?

I don't know. seems like every other day, sometimes onece a day I guess. I don't really think about it. In high school I used to oil those things like every free moment I had and I still had valve problems. I've got a different horn now and haven't had any valve problems, hopefully I never will, (knock on wood). Currently using Blue Juice....I remember when Pro Oil (red) was all the rage, what ever happened to that stuff?

I oil the valves daily, and currently I am using "Bell's Super Lube".

Re: How often do you oil your valves?

After reading this thread when it first started I began wiping and oiling my valves daily. I was amazed at the results. They are smoother and faster than ever. I also used to have stuff build up on my valves and wiping them took care of the problem. I also switched to Bell's Super Lube. A product of UNT students....fantastic stuff.

Re: How often do you oil your valves?

Hi @all

...good old Holton Valve oil seems to be the best for my horns. The valve section is in proper condition all the time with this oil....just recommendable !!!

Just oil it twice a week and you won't get any problems with your valves...

How does once a month sound? My valves used to stick quite a bit, but now, years later, they hardly ever stick. Bending notes is easier too.
