Re: Hub van Laar Flugelhorns

I never played the Oiram, but I did own a B1 some time ago.
Can't say enough great things about Hub's instruments.
And not afraid to say them either.:)

Re: Hub van Laar Flugelhorns

The finish of my horn is brushed raw brass with a polished inner bell. When the horn arrived the brass looked very fresh and bright so I took it outside for a quick photograph on the deck. The sky is reflected and the exposure is a little light in places so the finish appears a touch more silvery....since the photograph was taken the horn is developing a nice " raw brass" patina and continues to look gorgeous. Erik's photographs show the brushed gold finish....I nearly had that but was concerned that it would attract too much attention.....I needn't have worried...it still attracts attention!

I bought the horn initially based on the web site photograph and Erik's recommendation........when it arrived and I opened the box I was thrilled with how it looked.......after only a few notes I knew that it was everything I had hoped for. On it's own the sound is beautiful but what really surprised me was how well it blends and compliments other instruments...

Re: Hub van Laar Flugelhorns

I just tried out the ACK last week and he told me that they are 3900 (american or canadian I am not sure but they are close enough)

One word, Beautiful! I couldn't tear myself away form it. When there is money that is what Im getting! (I saw Guido Basso play on the exact same horn - the one I've been trying out all week, so that was also kind of a seller!)

Re: Hub van Laar Flugelhorns

My B4 trumpet is by far the finest trumpet I've owned. I'm sure the flugels are the same.

Re: Hub van Laar Flugelhorns

The oriam is GIGANTIC, bigger than the Kanstul 15XX series. So watch out what case you get for it. I've played the B1, and find that its to "trombone" sounding for me. The horn needs to be played like a small bore trumpet and I just don't get the fluffy-ness of a more compact horn. The B4 sounds like a winner. AustinWinds makes a killer flugehorn, i recommend checking it out, and its around $1700 new. I would love to try the oriam, i have only seen one. The other flugel that i VERY high on my list is the Taylor Phat Boy.

I put my Oiram flugel in a Protec flugel/trumpet double case.....the flugel fits perfectly and allows me to carry a trumpet as well. I nearly bought the Phat Boy but it was more money than I wanted to spend but it is a great horn.

I love that horn, The best for what I have trayed out.
I became curius after visiting Erik Veldkamp's web side, and desided to pay Hub a visit.
