Two Days Later....

Man, I really, REALLY like this horn!

Valves still are just amazing (Was told they are Bauerfeind, which is the reason they amaze me so much!). I actually make technical errors, because the fluidity of the valves mess with my head.

Sound, is full, robust. Not quite as THICK as I found this horn had the first day. I guess it takes me a few days to get "My" sound through the horn.

The sound is still really, really dark, though. Even darker than the 1503 I owned, even darker than the Schertzer piston Bb I tested. However, notes lock in better, intonation is clearer, the blow is just BETTER than my Strad 37!

Heck, even response, not something dark horns are good for usually, is better than many lightweight horns I've played.

Its an amazing horn, with some amazing concepts and a very unique result. I guarantee you've never played something like this.

I'll get pics close to the end of my test. Just a great horn.

And I'm now starting to get a better sound from the horn with my 5B, which I started out HATING...

Sounds like you're really enjoying the Alpha, Van. Those really are nice playing horns.

Thanks for the review.

A "Thanx", from me, as well, Van.
Your evaluations are v informative; putting the rather subjective experience of play-testing a horn into words is not easy. Also, you have good command of "The King's English" -- a rare quality, these days (sad to say). I give you my "5-Star" rating ... consider yourself a "WordSmith".

Thanks, Mr. Rowe (Good to hear from you, btw).

Today is a sad day, because its the last day I really will get to play the Alpha.

I'll start cleaning her up (raw brass horn...), and hopefully will get some pics for you guys.

Well, unfortunately Van only had it to test for a few days and now it will go to the new owner.
I want to thank Van very much for the great job he did testing it and writing about it.

so does this mean that nytc will be selling inderbinens soon?? i mean, as it is, the play test prior to buy is more difficult to achieve than the buy, which makes the buy near impossible for most people. i've had my ear on one since not too long before they were first heard by cats in the us. but i keep getting up late and missing the plane to europe...so does this mean i can stay in bed a little longer, drive an hour and a half, and get my inderbinen from my friendly ny trumpet dealer???

...say yes...

This was an instrument I got in trade,so I just thought it would be nice if Van plays it for a little while.
While he was playing it,I had a request ,and the horn is going to the hew owner in UK.
Would I have Inderbinen as a line?Quite possibly, but not any time soon.
You can take a drive and play some other fine horns we have? ,or we can just go out for a cup of coffee?
In any case,Inderbinen is a fine, fine horn, but at this tuime,I honestly preffer the horns that I have in my collection.

It would depend on the demand for an Inderbinen market in the United States.

The price is geared towards the higher-end market.

THEIR Bb TRUMPETS:

Inderbinen Alpha - $3,800 - $4,100

Inderbinen Silverart - $5,650 - $6,050

Inderbinen Inox - $5,100 - $5,450

Inderbinen Da Vinci - $9,100 - $9,600

Inderbinen Morrison - $4,700 - $5,000

Inderbinen Studie - $4,250 - $4,500

(Exchange rate for the Euro and Swiss Francs is quite a bit different now..... I also rounded to the nearest $50.)

Inderbinen is a difficult horn to take on as a line, because of the price, as well as the more restictive way Inderbinen accepts dealers (*VERY* little discount at first, if at all. I also believe prospective dealers have to buy horns in bulk to recieve the discount).

Also, each horn Inderbinen makes is for a specific player. A Morrison is NOT the horn for the legit gig guy, and the Studie is not exactly the lead book guy's first choice. A prospective dealer would have to be interested in investing $15,000.00 to $30,000.00 on strange-looking inventory that will probably sit there for a good long while.

Because of the price, as well as the eccentric look, it would be very difficult to establish an Inderbinen market here in the U.S, in my opinion. Many of us American players wont touch a horn unless it reminds them of a "good ole" Bach Strad, although this opinion is changing slowly.

Also, I agree with Felix. His horns are good enough for now (I am testing his Stage 1 Classic at the moment. I'm in LOVE.)

Also, each horn has a 6-month to a year build time. Lets not forget that.

The Alpha WAS a great horn, though.
