Re: instrument insurance

That is true, however, it primarily will just single it out so it does not count against your personal property coverage.

I'm a licensed agent in personal/commercial as well as life and health, so I'm not just in the musical instrument field.

"riders", "endorsements", etc. are great for certain things, however, if you DO get paid for a performance or take your instrument away from your home, it is STILL important to ask if those things are covered.

Just because it's scheduled still does not mean it's getting all the coverage you think it is.

It's best to educate yourself and not always just assume that a rider or schedule will cover you. Yes, it does extend some coverage, but it's not always what you think.

I have actually received a number of new clients indicating they "thought" their homeowner's policy would cover their instruments, however after speaking with their agent / carrier, they realized they had a great gap in coverage they needed.

It's certainly up to you how you wish to insure your possessions however just be sure you're buying what you really need.
