Joel,

there are trying to give me the same policy for 89 a year, what did you say to them to get it down to 58?
Jason, just mention to them that you have a friend whose insurance on his instruments is 58.00. Haggle with them, say you know that isnt the best deal out there.

Have you been robbed, or have been in an accident before?

did they cut you some kind of deal for having other polices with them? do you have a deductible?
Could be the fact of where you live compared to me .... ;) Or housing situation.

It would seem that yours would cost more, seeing as with the larger city environment, crime and theft would be a greater possibility...

You may have someone who's simply trying to shaft you, Jason.

Allstate may be a good choice. My family changed completely over, all insurance. Saving me personally about $400 with car insurance..

Do any of ya'll have a Farm Bureau nearby?

hose is on a distinguished road
I recently retired after 34 years as a State Farm agent. The key to State Farm's rates and eligibility is whether you make $1 or more a year playing your horn. (as opposed to teaching) If you make $1 you are considered a professional musician. If you are a professional, your horn(s) are not covered under your HO policy so if you want coverage you must purchase a Personal Articles Floater policy (PAF) for musical instruments. Of course, you don't have to be a "professional" to purchase a PAF. There are two rate levels, (professional and non-professional). If you are a Professional you must be able to walk on water to be eligible for the PAF. Only symphony musicians and their equvilent are eligible. You can't play in bars or other dens of iniquity where shadey characters hang out. And I believe, after talking to underwriters about insuring my own instruments that most trpt players would, by nature, fall into the shadey character slot. .. The rate through State Farm is consderably cheaper than through the Musicians Union alliance insurer and the State Farm coverage is better.

If you make $0 playing your horns, then they are automatically covered as personal property under your HO policy subject to the limitations of perils and deductibles of your particular policy. However, the PAF is "all risk" and usually without a deductible. (much better coverage than the HO). As you can see, State Farm (and I presume most others) are not quite in step with modern music society on this particular issue. Use this information as you chose.
