The more I think about it, if you just ordered the XO with the red brass or silver leadpipe it would be much less of an issue - at least in my mind. Like I said, if it weren't for the leadpipe, I'd still have mine.

I'm not trying to disparage Jupiter at all. I understand their saxes and flutes are highly regarded by woodwind players. Clearly their Tribune series trumpets are among some of the best values on the market.

I wasn't necessarily trying to compare the Jupiters from 10 years ago directly with the XO's because clearly it's not a strong comparison, especially with Jupiter who has made great strides in improving their product. Yet I personally can't help but be a little gunshy towards spending close to a grand on a new one, given my experience. That's only fair. And like I said I was quite pleased with mine for what it was and what I used it for.

BTW, I corresponded a bit with Neal Goodwin in the customer service dept. at Jupiter and he was very helpful and courteous. I was even trying to inquire about ordering the red brass leadpipe from the XO to replace mine, but instead I just decided to let it go.

Jason, if red rot in the leadpipe is a big concern, then you should consider the sterling silver leadpipe option that Jupiter offers. Amazingly the leadpipes actually make a slight change in the sound also, but I think that the main advantage is logevity.

I've heard that the Bb are around $1100, but I'm not certain. www.airstreammusic.com has some in stock, last I heard. Tell them Dave Stephens sent you. (I don't get a commission, but I do receive benefits like loaner horns and mpc tryouts galour).

I haven't tried the C.

Just be sure you're getting pricing on the 1600 Series, which is the Tribune XO series. There's a confusing array of other Tribunes at intermediate and pro-level. The 1600 series is what I've played and recommend.

Yea, it is the 1600. Apparently they had some dispute with Jupiter so are selling them off cheap. I guess for "spite".

Wow, could be a great deal for someone looking right now. That price is even lower than at ITG direct from Jupiter. "Dealer support" may be lacking in that particular case, but it might be a risk worth taking.

Dave,

They are closed Monday's, so I couldn't find out. Give them a call tomorrow, ask for Rich Welker.
