Re: Kanstul

Hi Adam,

I can't really comment on the various Kanstuls (other than I've wanted a 1500 for a long time), but I noticed that you're at UA. I just graduated from there in May.

Roll Tide!

Re: Kanstul

I have a Kanstul Custom Class piccolo trumpet and love it. The horn is so easy to play in tune. My trumpet teacher says it's easier to play on than his Schilke.

And does anyone know how resonant the sound of the 1500A is and if could fit into various styles of music?

Give the sales rep. at Kanstul a call, Charles Hargett. You can look up the toll free number at www.kanstul.net. He's a nice guy and his job is to answer the very questions you ask.

Re: Kanstul

Adam,

The 1601 is something like the 1500 in spec, but playes a bit differently. It's been a little while since I played the TW model, but as I remember, it slots considerably looser than the 1500. I think the response is better than the 1500 too, probably due to the light bell. I don't remember exactly what the tone was like, but I know it didn't sound as dark as I was expecting. I've never been particularly crazy about the 1500 and wasn't over the top for the 1500TW.

The 1503, 1001, 1500A, and 1500B are my favorite Kanstuls. For me, the 1503 is probably the best all-arounder, or maybe the 1001. The 1500B is an excellent legit horn - sweet, light, lyrical tone and handles like a race car!

The 1500A really intrigues me. It sounds and feels almost cornet-like. It's surprisingly easy to play for a heavier trumpet. I would think it would be OK for all-around use. I think it lacks the lightness of a classical horn and slots a little too tight for a jazz horn. But it's got a very interesting voice and is a hoot to play! I'd like to get one for myself at some point, but I can't imagine buying it as my primary Bb.

Re: Kanstul

I own a Wayne Bergeron Model #1600 Kanstul Trumpet with scratch brush finish. The horn is beautiful and one of the best horns I have owned and played in 36 years. It is an awesome horn. I also own the Kanstul Signature Flugelhorn and would not trade it for anything.

Re: Kanstul

I also have a 1600 (bought it new in brushed lacquer and had it redone in gold) and a 1525 flugel, and I love both horns. In fact, my flugel is one of the finest musical instruments I have ever played, period.

When I bought the 1600 I was looking for something closer to a "lead" horn than my Strad 37, and it fit that bill perfectly for me. The "handles like a race car" analogy would apply to this horn as well...

I have a 1510A C trumpet on order right now, if that gives you an idea of how much respect I have for Kanstul's products.
