Up till a couple of years ago, I played a Strad for 22yrs, got bored, discovered Ebay and Forums, and my horn list resulted and lots of fun, despite a couple of duds along the way. Now if I can just afford a couple of Ambassadors........

This from another Michigander; I am in G.R. and Dave,( MFFAN ) is a good friend. I hope that he feels the same about me as I feel that I have been at least partially, to blame for encouraging his growing trumpet/cornet inventory.

You sure are a good friend and partially responsible for my looking for interesting acquisitions, sort of inspiration and envy and increasing knowledge, coupled with lack of funds handicap. I have had the acquisition bug for many years, being a garage saler, thrift shop scavenger and my many stereo and video systems, recordings of all sorts, over the last 40 yrs. are hard to hide. Glad you are taking the credit you deserve.

Thanks again for the feedback, everyone.

I am still pondering the choices, but I am planning to make a decision by tomorrow.

I have narrowed down my options to following options:

Jupiter Tribute 1200S Trumpet
King Silver Flair 2055S Trumpet

I do realize that both of the horns are not the "best" on the market, and I can purchase a used professional model for the same price or cheaper. However, I really want a new horn.

With that said, is there anyone that can provide feedback on the aforementioned horns and their suitability for jazz, funk and soul music?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Ted

Buying a second quality instrument just because it is new is gross financial and artistic foolishness!!!! Be aware, the minute that you take possession of such a piece its marketability and market value goes down dramatically, just like buying a new car. The higher the quality of a horn, the better its resale value. Many top line accomplished instrumentalists have learned long ago that in most cases, the best instruments are the old ones. Can you imagine such as Bud Herseth giving up the Bach C trumpet that he has played for over forty years in The Chicago Symphony to play a sparkling new Bundy or Jupiter, or almost any violinist turning down an original Stradivarius violin from severral hundred years ago? I have a rather extensive 'accumilation' of elderly fine instruments that I play regularly in public, by choice. An example of this is the solo that I played as the featured soloist at a large local church on Easter Morning. It is a 1939 vintage Conn Concert Grand cornet. My trumpeter friend, Dave Rafferty has been in my music room and played most of my horns and I am certain that he would turn down most new horns to be able to gain access to owning many of my old horns.

I truly understand your point. The financial aspect does not concern me, as much as the artistic aspect. I do wish to purchase a trumpet that will satify my playing needs for a very, very long time. In return, this scenario will also address the financial aspect, as I will not purchase another trumpet in the foreseeable future (now, a flugelhorn is another isssue ).

After debating the issue over the past few days, I skipped the intermediate trumpets and purchase a professional horn, the Jupiter 1602S-R Tribune XO Series Pro Trumpet (silver model with reverse leadpipe).

In the end, I am happy with the decision.

That´s what the guy beside me in our community/concert band (depending on season, ) plays, although a few years older than your brand new one. Very nice horn! You may have found your 40 years keeper.

Re: King Silver Flair 2055S vs Jupiter Tribute 1200S

I agree with everyone who said go to a place where you can compare several different horns. That said, I do have a Jupiter 1200 that I bought before the price took off and I really don't have any complaints about it. It is substantial (heavy) and well built and I've never had any complaints about it. It replaced a Blessing ML-1 that had intoation issues above the staff. I have two other Jupiter horns, a flugel and a t-bone (can I say that in a trumpet forum?) and am well satisfied by them. Check out the brasswind but don't forget your local stores too, I've had several match WWBW prices when I showed them a catalog--plus you have a local connection for service.

Re: King Silver Flair 2055S vs Jupiter Tribute 1200S

I played both of these horns and I currently play a King Silver Flair 2055t(which has a trigger instead of a saddle) For the money around 1000 its probably worth it. It can be used in many setting and sound good. The slotting above a high "C" is not that great though but it can be overcame. Hope that helps
