Re: Leadpipe Crud

Not to pose as an expert, I offer my cleaning routine to those interested. Each day I rinse the horn with warm running water into the bell while working the valves. I then pull the tuning slide and pull a clarinet swab moistened with valve oil, cut down to be a snug fit, through the leadpipe. I look inside the tuning slide with a flashlight, and if any debris is seen, I snake the slide.
This routine keeps most crud from forming elsewhere in the horn for an extended period, but when I pull a valve and see anything in the valve ports, I do a full disassembly cleaning with a good degreaser. Since 1950. I've never had a horn with red rot, or any valve problems.

Re: Leadpipe Crud

Look up Verdigris in a dictionary and consider "killing" it with warm water and baking soda before playing too much.
