Re: Modified Bach Strad

Does anyone ever notice with their Strads that it is a little tight in the upper register. Like all the way up to A is good, and above is very hard and tight to get. It feels like something is limiting me. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Re: Modified Bach Strad

hey sorry for the late responce i've been really busy. i ment i'm screwed because i got the horn a few days before i came herer ot ghana to teach, and theres no where to take it into to get cleaned out of just explained to me. it'd be a lot easiser to explain if i could get a picture up. I've cleaned my horn out VERY well, so i'm really really clueless to whats going on. the "lips" are on the bottom part of the valve in between the first and second holes from the top. i dont mean the horned has screwd me that was deinatly not the right word to use. I played a old strad for about 4 years and was very happy with it, and this strad plays alright, it works which is enough for me i'm not to picky when it comes to horn, i was just disapointed that this valve has to be oiled every time i pick up my horn....

you have a ml bell yeah? i've played horns that are more open up top but it's alright up top. F's and G's come out fine for me with not to much work, compare to waynes horn where i would have to work harder to get those notes to come out but when they came out they sound absoloutly golden.

Re: Modified Bach Strad

Well I have a 37 bell on mine, but it says ML above the serial number. I always just thought that was the leadpipe/bore size- medium large. I don't know.

Believe it or not, Bachs and many other really fine brands will permit us to put in the valve backwards. Try turning it 180 degrees. The part that sits under the valve spring, a ring with two T-shaped flanges coming out, can be seated backwards. Mess with that a bit.

This may help, it may not.

Good luck!

Re: Modified Bach Strad

cheers i'll definatly mess about with that and see how it fares.

the 37 on the horn means the model number it is not the bell size. and the ML as u said by the serial number is the bore size.
i'm glad you are really loving your horn.

Re: Modified Bach Strad

37 is the number of the mandrel used to shape the bell. All Bach Bb bells measure 4 7/8"

ML (.459) is the bore size as measured at the 2nd valve slide.
