I'm not quite sure I know what you mean when you say the following-

"Be careful of course to add the 1/2 inch length back into the instrument when choosing the trumpet reciever!"

My trumpet mouthpiece is at least .500" longer than a cornet mtpc. so I thought that would compensate for the lost half inch. I was going to use a standard Bach trumpet receiver. I might have to pull the tuning slide a bit more.

Hi Dennis

Yes i meant that you will have to find the right trumpet receiver to make the length correct again.
Yes Trumpet recievers are longer, but again not all are the same.

Regards

Leigh

GordonH has a spectacular aura about
I have been through something similar: trying to find a cornet which will respond (resistance wise) like a trumpet while sounding like a cornet. Thats why I ended up with a Wedgwood. Its easy to switch between them as the reistance is noticeably lower, but I do use a proper cornet V shaped mouthpiece in it.

However.... Denis Wedgwood has actually made at least one cornet with a trumpet receiver on it and a different lead pipe (for a friend) for the same reasons you are suggesting, so its not completely outrageous. However, the mathematics may be a bit more complicated than just chopping a bit off the end of the lead pipe as there are bracing issues on some instruments.

Will Spencer has modified a cornet to accept a trumpet mouthpiece. I am sure he will be willing to give you some advice and thoughts on the matter.
