All the best,

Ken,

Thank you for responding. Yes, Monette enclosed two bottles of Ultra Pure oil with the trumpet. I oil the valves before and after each playing as instructed by Monette. The valves are very tight and precise. I'm hoping they stay that way for a long time... I'll continue to use Ultra Pure as I view it as cheap insurance for protecting the valves from corrosion or damage.

In my personal experiences with the O rings I find that the tighter I go while still maintaining the difference in tightness between caps that Dave recommends the tighter the horn becomes, the slotting that is, whenever I play jazz I tend to loosen them up a bit and it makes the note connections and slotting for lack of a better adjective "slicker".
CMC... Yes the experience was like opening a special present tightly wrapped in bubble wrap... I did get a chance to play around with the bottom valve cap adjustments and concur your comments. When I loosened the caps, the horn really opened up. I'm still fiddling around with the adjustments. The MF Prana is really a joy to play.

Re: Monette "O" ring Question

i'm a bit late on the draw here, but i have noticed a deterioration in how the horn feels when the o-rings get all crusty and stuck on there. as for how i adjust it and how often these days, it's usually about once a week, and i roughly follow the Monette recommendations as per the original post tempered with the knowledge of my own horns that i've accumulated over the 9 years i've been "in the cult."
