| Forte User | EVERYONE MUST EMAIL ME THEIR PICS!!!! Kidding, sort of. If you guys *want* to share your pics, here I am: heavens2kadonka@hotmail.com I just want to look at the bells, mainly. After seeing that ebay pic of the Prana, I am VERY interested in what Dave is doing. VERY unique flare. It actually seemed to curve back towards the player somewhat. I do comment that that bell was one of the most beautiful things I'd seen. AND it was raw brass. Interesting thing: Rod McGaha is soon to become a resident artist at Cumberland University (and hopefully, I will be chosen as one of his students). He plays a VERY unique Monette trumpet. The place where the two pieces of the bell are soldered together, there is a large RING. I'm thinking its either a screw bell, or something to affect the tone to get "his" sound. Haha, I was too nervous to approach him about his axe that night. He's SICK on the trumpet, jeez. Van (Oh, and I'm glad I actually created a Monette rant that people LIKE!!

![]() ![]() | Hey Van, I google "Rod McGaha" and found some pictures of him with his horn. Are you absolutely sure it is a Monette? The pictures I saw don't appear to be of a Monette. An easy way to tell is to look at the first slide trigger. Most instruments, such as those made by Bach, have a saddle. Almost all Monettes have a ring on both the first and third slide. -Jimi

| Forte User | ![]() This isn't the horn I watched him play the other night. Must be an older one (these photos seem to be older). Rod, as a resident artist, plays in a special touring group representing CU. Joe Murphy, our director and tuba/bass player, told me the horn he was using was a Monette (and he corrected me on my pronunciation, as I was saying "Monette" like the painter BTW, those pics you sent were GREAT, Jimi! I will see if someone will host one of the bell pics. ....And where is everyone else's Monette pics? Van

| Forte User | .....Back when Dave was in Chicago. How many of these conversions did he do before striking out on his own? While sorta-on subject, Jimi has a Bach C which has a Monette leadpipe, tune slide and brace! ....What are the differences between the two, soundwise? How does that Bach sharper flare bell compare to the more gently-curved Monette? Van

![]() ![]() | Van, The Bach/Monette frankenhorn is a dream. It plays and sounds a lot like an early Monette. I had the pleasure of listening to a VERY good musician play it, and then switch off to a recently made Prana STC 1. The sound was surprisingly similar, except that the Prana's sound was much richer (more overtones). It's especially nice for festival and school auditions where you aren't behind a screen and are subject to what Monette calls the "visual ear." -Jimi

Here's a link to a website for a player in the Hiroshima Symphony. He's got pictures of his horns. In his "links" area, theres a link to another player who's got Monette pictures too. And I agree...pictures of them are cool to look at! http://translate.google.com/translat...l%3Den%26lr%3D
