CHECK OUT JAZZBIRD'S PICS!!

They're of exactly the horn I was especially interested in. LOOK at that bell! It DOES slightly flare back....

Van,

Glad you like the pics.

I think it is a bit of optical illusion though. The bell looks like it flares back in the photos (maybe due to light reflection) but in reality....it goes completely flat for about 1/2 inch at th rim...which gives it a bit of a radical look indeed. I will take a closer look again when I get home and report anything else that I notice.

See how the ring doesnt show the entire way, how it disappears behind the curve of the inside of the bell? It does very slightly bend back, I do believe...

Van,

You are right...it does. I just pulled it out and studied it carefully. It does flare back slightly. I am surprised I never noticed that myself. Good eye.

One thing I can tell you....that took me a bit to get used to...is that the horn has a very wide and big sound. I mean very big. On standard trumpets I have always been use to thinking about high notes as "lasers" coming out the bell in a thin straight line...If you think that way with this horn...you will choke off your air...you always have to think big and wide....and then the higher notes are no harder to play. I am mentioning all this because I think this bell shape is what gives it such a huge sound.....but of course I am no trumpet maker either...just my playing observation.

Some more comments: Why aren't there more pictures ? I have no idea...and I had the exact same thought a couple years ago when I got interested in the 993. I had never seen one up close until I went out to Monette and then ...I went nuts in the showroom when I actually saw the horns up close...I mean they are visually stunning ...and they really should post more pictures.
