coprion bells

Geezer, I have the same problem with my 'boss'. I have a Getzen Super Deluxe Cornet with the typical crushed bell that I would love to send in for such a conversion,"BUT". I also have a Conn Conductor with a bell that is bent at the curve, quite badly. The rest of the horn is excellent. I would like to find a replacement bell for it, but, with Directors selling for about $35.00 with a good case on ebay, I can't justify buying a high priced bell for this one. If I am lucky, I might find a bargain on a bell for the old Conn.

I already had my tech put on a modern receiver that accepts regular mouthpieces and cut my tubes that hold the tuning slide so that I can push the slide farther in to get it in tune. I took it to reh. last night and played it on a couple of tunes and could not believe how much easier the upper range played compared to my trumpet [ Benge 2X mlp ]. I wish my Benge played that open. I did notice that the intonation wasn't as close as my Benge but the cornet was an absolute ball to play. old geezer Dave

Re: My Stoner Olds Coprion Conversion

wowzers....kindof a "frankensteinish" horn if you ask me...but I love it anyways. You can't beat those Coprion bells. ALthough I do wonder why no one has bought or copied Conn's process of making seamless copper bells. Aren't most copper bells today made out of sheet copper? Apparently Conn knew what and how to do...and turned out thousands of seamless bells.................wonder why no one else has caught on? or am I just clueless?

PS speaking of 17a Director Coprion bells...I would never change a thing on my little cornet.....it still has all the orginal lacquer...a nice "honey, rose" color...I'll have to post a pic sometime...

Re: My Stoner Olds Coprion Conversion

If we still get to vote for finishes, I'd suggest clear lacquer after polishing the heck out of it--some serious old school bling! Oops--about two years too late!

Re: My Stoner Olds Coprion Conversion

MJ,
Garry Stoner is the guy building the New York Trumpet Company's California and Classic models. He is a master! And a really nice guy to boot. I'm not sure, but he might still do his overhauls. Hope he doesn't mind, but leave him a PM here on TM- prof5 is his name on here. I'm not sure if he still does custom work on old horns or not...if he does, I've got another horn I want him to work on...I don't think he has his own personal site.

Re: My Stoner Olds Coprion Conversion

A very good reason for NOT using Conns technique for seamless bells (whatever that really means?????) is that there are many roads leading to wonderful - many less expensive - and still without comprimise!
This is one beautiful horn though!
