My son and I are both hoping that he'll follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps and play trumpet too!!!

Re: The New Flip Oakes "Celebration" horn test, pt. 1

Sorry, I've been away for a few days. I didn't think about photos of my horn when I chimed in on on this thread. I like to take photos of brass outside under natural light and I think the next chance I will have will be sometime this weekend. I'll try to have a few to post before Monday.
By the way, this may sound like I have rocks in my head but I listed my Bach MLV 65G on ebay. It's a marvelous horn with a different character from the Celebration but I can't justify two B-flat trumpets with the amount of time I have available to play.

Regards,
Dave Taylor

I don't think you have rocks in your head at all! As wonderful a horn as a fine 65 can be . . . as you've discovered . . . it ain't the hot rod that one of Flip's horns is!

I'm using my Celebration more and more within certain ensembles and especially in the big band setting where TWO of us now play the Celebration model!

It is an awesome horn.

Flip just started a new thread yesterday asking for folks to send him photos of them and their Oakes horns. I'm gonna try to oblige this weekend.

Have a great weekend yourself!

I'm having trouble figuring out how to get a jpg file of the horn small enough to fit the requirements of the site, about 97 KB. Flip Oakes has good photos of all of his horns on his website, just Google Flip Oakes. I got the lacquer Celebration.

Dave Taylor
