Re: New piccolo trumpet

Which eBay seller did you buy from? I've been looking at these but didn't know if I should take a chance. I recently bought a Berkeley Winds Eb/D that looks like a copy of the Kanstul Custom Class and was pleasantly surprised.

Re: New piccolo trumpet

Hello davidelf.

Are you talking about my purchase of a piccolo trumpet or an Eb/D trumpet?

I bet with an Osmun leadpipe and some minor tweaking this could be a REALLY good horn.

Overall build quality is very good, again better than what I expected.

We'll see how the longevity is on this horn but right now I'm really happy!

Does it have the sweetness and roundness of a Scherzer (or in that direction) related to your Schilke? A nice rotary picc for $400 is something I might treat myself to for graduation...

I was referring to the Chinese picc being discussed above.

Your upgrades will probably cost about as much as the horn did itself :D

Then you can afford to invest under $10 in some ZipStrip and take the lacquer off. The Scherzers seem to play better without the East German lacquer--cheapo suff according to the West German Blechblasistrumentenmachermeistern.

Don't want to get involved in politics here, but my Scherzer is more free without it.

I'd wait a little while until you know the horn's put together well enough to be immersed in solvent! THe repair shop I used to work at wouldn't clean those kind of horns after a french horn fell apart during the chem clean.

That said...how's the sound and intonation? Does it have any of the qualities that make me covet the real Schertzer... If so, I might give it a shot.

Jason.

And to be fair to me and Trent we both have perfectly good piccolo trumpets that we use normally.
I think we both just like tinkering.
At least I have an excuse, I am a radiop ham and I think tinkering with things is genetic.

The rotary is a bit mouthpiece sensitive.
I find it gets flat at the top end if you use to deep a mouthpiece (no surprise).
I also find that the Monette piccolo mouthpiece works better, but I have to bind it with tape to fit it in a cornet to trumpet adaptor because mine is the smaller size.

Re: New piccolo trumpet

Actually, I can remember when Scherzer was a cheap imported brand of instrument.
When I bought my first D trumpet I could only really afford the Scherzer rotary which was £250. I decided I didnt want to risk buying a cheapo one so I found some more cash and went for the Blessing at £295.

What a mistake!
