So, it was basically put together with glue? wow

Well, it was better than glue...a little. This was a REALLY lousy thing...a french horn for about $150. It sounds like this picc is quite a bit better.

Re: New piccolo trumpet

Here are some more videos of the rotary piccolo trumpet.

I am using the Monette AP1-5 mouthpiece with a Bob Reeves adaptor.
The mouthpiece will not go far enough into the adaptor so I had to bind the end with insulating tape. I just don't feel like spending $200 on another mouthpiece with the right fitting when the trumpet only cost $400.

Poor audio quality as its the built in web cam microphone.
Please no comments about the shirt!

The reason for the delay in doing this was that I had to concentrate on playing the cornet for two weeks for a Gilbert and Sullivan gig. We were also getting our living room redecorated so the furniture was piled up in the room that has the computer in it.
I could have recorded it at work but I have a feeling my employees would have objected or jumped about in the background.

Telemann Concerto for trumpet and two oboes
(I am performing this with an orchestra in March and this is my first look at it for about ten years)

1st Movement
YouTube - Telemann Trumpet concerto pt1 - piccolo trumpet

3rd Movement (may be the 4th movement depending on which edition you have and how it splits the middle ones)
YouTube - Telemann Trumpet concerto pt2 - piccolo trumpet

Telemann Concerto in D for trumpet
Apologies for the bad G's.

Allegro - normal speed
YouTube - Telmann trumpet concerto in D - piccolo trumpet

Allegro - stupidly fast
YouTube - Telemann concerto in D - piccol trumpet - way too fast

Some more Telemann Tootlings
I was trying to work on my trills and overall tone
YouTube - More Telemann tootlings on my piccolo trumpet

Trent was saying that he felt the blow was quite tight on this instrument.
To me it feels like most rotary valve instruments I have played on, there should be more of a resistive feel rather like a cornet, but it should not feel so tight that it effects the range.
You do get looser feeling roary trumpets but they tend not to have the distinctive sound.

Another possible solution if you want it to blow more open is to use the tightest of the Bb leadpipes but pull it out to play in A.
That will change the response.

Re: New piccolo trumpet

I tried my pic last night with my P5-4. Every sound test my wife liked the rotary sound better than my Schilke! I liked the ping of the schilke on some of it but I agreed with the vocal quality of the rotary between the notes.

I'm going to record some clips on Wednesday and get them up. Right now I'm still very happy with this horn. Here's hoping it doesn't fall apart in a week! ;)

I know, its a worry.
Mine does seem quite solid though, no sign of the springs flying off which is a common problem with rotaries.

Re: New piccolo trumpet

a lot more tubing in a horn. maybe they had to cut costs and used glue.

Re: New piccolo trumpet

Update: I have obtained a new mouthpiece adaptor (Denis Wick) which does not go as far up the shank of the mouthpiece so it accommodates the Monette one without having to wrap tape round it.
I cant actually tell any difference but at least its not relying on tape to hold it in.
