Re: new trumpet?

if your band director is nationally famous and you think he knows "wat" he is talking about, and he told you to get a strad or xeno, why are you asking us???

we are just a bunch of hacks behind a computer screen...i'd go with the nationally famous band director any day...

Re: new trumpet?

The best trumpet is the one which feels good and comfortable for you.
Nobody can tell you, not even famous directors will be able to tell you that.

But "Strad" is a good advice, since there are 100´s of different Strads possible.
regular weighted 37, 43, 72, 25, LR 37, 43, 72, 25, LT 37, 43, 72 a.s.o.

I´d go in a big store and select some different to figure out, what I like. And don´t watch the engraving, brand names only tell 2% of the story.

They are both great horns and you won't go wrong with either. Both will serve you well into (and beyond) college. Try them both and see which you like and can afford. I personally like the Alan Vizzutti Xeno, and the New York Xeno, but doubt if I'll ever be able to afford one. Alan Vizzutti by the way, took a New York Xeno and a Bach Strad that he thought played very well. He had Yamaha tweek the New York until it blew the strad out of the water. This is now the Alan Vizzutti Xeno.

Repair shops should have these and be able to install them for you. Find some local repair shops and give them a call to see if they have the items in stock and how much the procedure will cost. It shouldn't be much because the TR300 already has a tuning slide brace and a first slide ring (at least mine does, though it shouldn't be more than 50 bucks for an appropriate slide). The leadpipe and installation shouldn't be to expensive either.

A note about the leadpipe, ask the repair technician to let you try the leadpipe first before you have him put it on permanently. The 43 is not for everyone. Neither is the standard #25 or any other leadpipe (that's why there are so many). Find one you like and go with it. This will also help you choose which Strad you want to get (if you choose that route) because then you will know the specs of what you want.

My Band Director said,

"I see you've polished your trumpet - nice job?"

This was the first Band practice that I turned up with a brand new polished silver Getzen 700SP to replace a 1955 frosted silver finish Boosey & Hawkes Regent MkII.

Band Directors! You gotta love 'em.

He didn't make the same mistake when I showed up with a beautifully lacquered Getzen Eterna 900 a couple of years later - he wouldn't have dared - the trumpet section would have fried him.

Re: new trumpet?

If you want to free up the blow, go with a 43 pipe, if you like it the way it is, get the 25.

Re: new trumpet?

All Bach leadpipes in use today are freer than the 25 (Except the 6, used on the TR300). But they each have different degrees and types of openness. the 25-O has a similar sound to the 25, the 43 is brighter, the 44 is even brighter, and the 7 is darker than the 25. There's also reverse tuning slide. Each one is different and none of them are the end all for a free blow. As Rowuk said:

Although the 43 does seem to be one or the most popular leadpipes (up there with 25 reversed).

Re: new trumpet?

If your arent happy with your Bach atm. I reccomend either a different good brand like Yamaha, or if your in the mood to spend cash a Monette. Otherwise just get like a Bach Strad Model 37. Thats what I have and it works, between the prices of 20 hundred and 30 hundered. I got mine for 800 used off E-bay. try searching there.
