Re: Which Picc?

Pics can be tough to track down for trial. Do you have a teacher? You might be able to spend a little time trying his/hers, plus your teacher may have friends with other models. You may be able to arrange a lesson/piccolo trial with some of them. I know I'd be happy to let a friend's student come over and try a horn. Good Luck!

Jason.

Re: Which Picc?

How does the trial work? How long would i get it, how much is the restocking fee, and is that the only fee you would have to pay? Also, if i did this, what would happen to the picc, as im pretty sure wwbw only sells instruments new?

Re: Which Picc?

For the Getzen trumpet, when it says $35 a month, does this mean I could just get it for a month and pay the $35, but return it before the months over?

I don't think we can read the fine print for you. WWBW's return policy is clearly stated on their site. :)

Re: Which Picc?

Do not expect to buy a picc, stick your mouthpiece in it and be Maurice André! The difference between a standard trumpet and a picc is the same as the difference between a trumpet and a trombone. One whole octave. You will need more than a month of playing to make ANY qualified decisions. The blow is completely different!

Trumpet is not a plug and play affair with cheats downloadable from trumpetmaster. Learning to play the picc takes time and this is not some spur of the moment decision. If you just want to get the "feel" without a big risk, check out GordonH and Trents posts on that $400 chinese rotary thing. If you are serious, a Yamaha or Getzen will not be a mistake.

If this thread even gets near abusing a companies return policy, I'm out! It costs MONEY to keep stock and offer return policies. They have a function to protect the customer not open the door to cheat the retailer! The restocking fees are to keep the tranaction in the "common sense" area!

If you are serious, make the commitment. This will not be your last horn ever.............................

You sure the eterna comes with the blackburn? I could swear Getzen said in another thread recently that they hadn't sent any out like that yet. Mebbe wrong...

Re: Which Picc?

I've had that same Yamaha model before, and I thought it was a great horn. I don't have a picc right now though, and I'd rather try some others out. I'm interested in trying some Schilkes.

Re: Which Picc?

Rowuk - It's a mystery to me. I clean and oil them pretty much once a week. My first picc was a Couesnon b-flat with bottom sprung valves. The valve action on that horn was actually quite good. I live near New York City. I'm thinking of taking it to Wayne Tanabe or Josh Landress and see what can be done about it. I'm wondering if the horn was made during the Yamalloy curse period. I should check the serial number.

Freshman Trumpeteer - Rowuk is 100% correct. Playing piccolo is definitely not a plug in and play affair. I assume you are studying privately. If not then I would caution you against buying one. You really need to work your way up to it. I would start with C trumpet and then move to D/Eflat then piccolo. I think too many people get sucked into this notion of picking up a piccolo and becoming the next Maurice Andre or Hakan Hardenberger. IMHO attempting to learn Baroque literature without the aid of a competent teacher can lead to disaster.

The bore size tends to be smaller on the short bell models. The bore size on the Yamaha 6810 is 0.415 as opposed to a Schilke which is 0.450. There really is a lot to consider when purchasing one. What will you be using it for solo or orchestral work?

Good luck.

What valve oil are you using? When I bought my YTR 6335HS II the valves where sticky all the time. I changed to blue juice and problem solved!! just a thought.
