Isn't that the finish you're getting with your Stage 1? where did you see it? on the web? I'd like to see it...

Re: Plating Options

Here's my Stage 1 NY with paladium finish. Similar to silver, only a bit darker. Look at my silver mouthpiece to see the difference..

Not a Stage 1 but a nice finish. I've emailed Felix today a few times (man he is fast) and he continues to prove he is one of the nicest guys around.

If the copper bell doesnt do what I want it to I will be going with the set up he has on his Cal. C trumpet. He has nice pics of it on his site. www.newyorktrumpetcompany.com

Re: Plating Options

Thanks for the pictures...I emailed him this morning with the other questions but haven't heard back yet. I'm just curious...that copper looks almost..too bright...I wonder if he could do it without the laquer? I can't put my finger on what it is..it just seems too light. Anyway...seems like an interesting setup. I just hope I can figure out what I want without going crazy :)

Re: Plating Options

Miles,
I have officially ordered my Stage 1 California-with a Scratched instead of brushed finish...rimless copper bell, lacquer body, polished lacquer slides, and polished copper valve tops and bottoms, and a scratched sterling silver leadpipe. I'm looking forward to late March...:) You better send some pictures when you get yours!

Why would Zachary music show that trumpet with all of the seams showing like that?

Re: Plating Options

Just a wild guess but it's probably a bit difficult to "hide" the solder line on a copper bell. When you finish it in "clear lacquer"... well, the lines are just going to show up. The alternative is to plate over and then it wouldn't look the same. "Goes with the territory" and has nothing to do with Zachary nor the actual manufacturer.

Re: Plating Options

It must be a copper thing because I have raw brass trumpets with no seam

Re: Plating Options

Toots is exactly right. I have a Calicchio copper-bell flugelhorn and know several players with Kanstul flugels with copper bells, and they all have that visible seam. The only way to avoid it would be to electroform the bells, or hide the seam (as well as the copper) with plating.

Re: Plating Options

DubbaCTrumpetMSU wrote "that copper looks almost..too bright". I have a Kanstul 1525 flugel with the same scratch finish as the Zeus and I have yet to see a photo do it justice. The shades of copper are especially eye catching as the scratch finish reflects light in a peculiar way that will give bright highlights but the over all color is moderately dark.
