| New Friend | Removing Silverplating Has anyone removed the silver plating from a horn? If so, what is the best method and how are the results? I have an old flugel that I'd like to strip down to raw brass but I don't want to spend the cash to have it done professionally. Thanks for any input. |

| Pianissimo User | The best method IS to have it done by a professional. Not meaning to be flipant but if you want it to look good and not to risk damaging the horn then this is the only sensible route to go down. The good news is that it would not be very expensive. All the best, Noel.

![]() | Hiya Noel is right I just thought i would chime in and say that you must never try to take silver off yourself!!! Lacquer is one thing ,but silver is quite another. I use a specialist company to do all of that for me, most people think that just any silver plating company can do it but thats just not true at all. I have only found 2 companies in the whole of the UK that can do it to the standard i want. Pay the bucks and leave it in skilled hands, it will be worth it trust me. Regards Leigh
