| Fortissimo User | Same thread is running on the "other" forum. Per one of the guys over "there"who specializes in repairs, lacquer does NOT adhere well to sterling silver bells. If you want long life of the finish, have it silver plated. I'd tend to go with that reasoning: have a chance to play a King Silver-sonic cornet every week... no lacquer on the bell (gold wash interior) but the rest of the horn is lacquered. Selmer probably made a big goof when they elected to ship them out in lacquer. Plus, Selmer use a different (older?) type of lacquer from the newer, epoxy lacquers. Invite them to suggest that the lacquer wasn't a good idea in the first place and offer to return and replace your horn with one in silver plate until they are ready to ship the new one. Or not... as suits your fancy. |

![]() | No Mr. Laureno, they sent me no horn. They did not tell me that they were going to trash my horn, nor did they give me the choice of getting mine back or recieving a new one. This is why I am upset. If I had the horn right now, I could care less. I am playing on a loaner from a friend of mine, and luckily it is an ok horn...but again, that's not the point. I was not taken care of. 6 hours to Elkhart is pretty far, and since I am in college, I don't have time to get up there to spend any time to pick out a horn. There may be somewhere in Louisville, but i would rather go to Cinncinatti. But still, besides the point...this isn't about me picking out a horn, it is about me getting a horn back from Selmer. They destroyed what is mine, without notifying me, and no matter whether they are going to replace it, I had a right to know. The reason I don't want bad relations with the company is because I like their horns. I want to keep playing them, and if anything comes up in the future, I don't want relational problems because I am Julian Kaplan and I did whatever to the Bach company. And yeah, I am aware why the bell is laquered. Sterling silver apparently tarnishes must faster, which I could tell where the laquer had peeled off the bell on mine. This is why they laquer it. Why they can't get it to stick is past me. But yeah, I can't offer to return my horn, since I don't have it...so I am stuck playing the borrowed one until January...because of poor communication on their part. |

![]() | Well, that's just sick, Julien. So, you're out a horn and will have nothing but a loaner from a friend until January?! Demand your money back and buy another brand instrument. The competition is too good today to deal with that kind of nonsense. Who cares who gets annoyed at the Bach factory? If your story is accurate, I'm behind you 100%. ML |

![]() | Hey Julien, If they give you your money back I suggest you use part of it as a down payment on an Eclipse and finance the rest of it. You will be out of pocket a bit more money, but you will have a super fine horn! I'm so sorry you are having these problems. It is just not fair!

| Forte User | If a company does something affecting the paying customer without letting them know, then the paying customer has a RIGHT to let them know they are displeased. This is not an issue of relational problems. They did something without telling you, and you are not pleased with that lack of courtesy. Maybe they forgot to tell you, an oversight. Its possible, Selmer oversees so much production. You need to speak with a rep from Selmer. Van

I still love my Harrelson! It is by far the finest instrument I have ever played, but he can get an Eclipse for about $3500 in silver. I think to get a custom Harrelson like mine you could add a couple thousand on top of that -- or he could buy mine for say $8000. I wouldn't give it up for a penny less. I love my Harrelson so very much, but I'd also love to own an Eclipse. For me it could be an LC with a gold plated finish! super dark when you want super dark, but with lots of pop when you want it to sizzle! My dream would be to keep my Harrelson C and add an Eclipse Bb to my collection. Someday I'd also like to have one of the new Harrelson Bb trumpets, but I'm having trouble paying my monthly medical bills so I think for now I'll tick to my old 30,XXX Bach Strad., that is unless I could work out a trade with either Leigh at Eclipse or with Jason Harrelson! They are the only two guys in the world I'd be willing to trade my old Bach straight up!

Whoever stole it is probably dead or in jail. You can take solace in the fact that is how those types almost always wind up.

![]() ![]() | Silvertone trumpet My horn was a horn built by H.N.White in 1932. It was a Super 20 Symphonic model Silvertone. I am absolutely positive that it never had any lacquer on any portion of the horn. When my dad gave me his horn, he told me that I had to keep it polished. He gave me the whiting and made sure that I had access to a supply of denatured alcohol to keep it clean and polished. If it had ever been lacquer coated, he would have told me that and I would have been instructed to use a clean, dry, soft cloth to wipe it after each use. OLDLOU>>
