Thought I would bump this back to the top.............

I got a new Scodwell from Rayburn Music a week ago, and just finished up a Christmas show with it. This horn is incredible. Amazing core to the sound, very rich, but when you move your air faster the horn really sizzles. I know I was projecting through the band when, during the opening tune, I saw 2 LOL's (Little Old Ladies) who were sitting about 15 feet away from me, directly in line with my bell, get up and move farther back.

Rayburn has one more Scodwell in stock. Check it out!

Your New Horn

Mike,

Glad to hear it's working so well for you. I know you've spent some time & energy trying to find "the horn" for yourself.

Did you have any trouble with the slides or valves, it being a new horn, and sometimes we break those things into our selves?

Michael

Hi Michael,

Yeah, the valves and slides on my horn are very tight, but slick. I did take the horn apart, degrease and clean it right away. I like to use Pro Oil Hybrid on my horns, and it is best to get any old oil out before using the stuff. But the horn is playing great. It is comforting to get a new horn that plays great right out of the box, with no adjusting or "tweaking" needed. Part of that of course is due to the craftsmanship of Tony Scodwell, who as we all know is an incredible player as well as horn manufacturer. He will not release a horn for sale until it has passed his stringent criteria.

Happy New Year, everyone! Here is to a prosperous and clam-free 2005.........

European valves???

I heard Tony started using European parts instead of Kanstul.

Anyone know the source of the parts?

I played for the Shrine circus [the hour before the show] and the trumpet player who did the show had a Scodwell. That trumpet sounded beautiful, I have heard him play on other trumpets and he always sounded good but this time he sounded even better. it shows that good equipment will help a good player sound even better. old geezer Dave

I own a Scodwell trumpt and flugel, both horns are less than a year old. Tony gets the parts for his trumpets from Kanstul. He then anneals the bells and assembles the horns himself. The flugelhorn is made by Kanstul to Tony's specs.

Great horns

Just got off the phone with Tony. He said that horn at Rayburn built with European parts is actually a B&S valve section that Tony got from Rayburn (as a complete trumpet). Tony then rebuilt it, using his own bell, leadpipe, and tuning slide. Tony did tell me this Scodwell/B&S plays real nice, and would be a great horn for somebody. He is still getting parts from Zig, but wanted to see how the B&S valve sction would compare.

If I had the $$, I would check it out...........
