![]() | Re: Stage 1 Trumpets...Help? I'm thinking about getting one. I have not played a rimless bell, however I have been told it makes the tone "sing" more out of the horn. I would guess, having less metal to reflect back from, would help the tone be more brilliant. I am not going the rimless route, mainly since I cant remember a time I havent hit my rim on something and the little ring of metal has saved me. The rim Felix is doing for me is a little different than standard, but still a rim. The "mega copper rimless trombone sized trumpet bell" would be neat to see, but he would have to make a Stage 1 case for it In my experience with braces on slides I have found no brace makes the slots more "slippery" and wider where the brace helps slot notes tighter. Rounded slide, more open feel but the lack of resistance sometimes is a bad thing. Of course square slide is a little more resistant. I actually need to contact Felix and see how many of these slide he has in stock. It would be neat to try as many as possible and do a review on the combinations. I know he is working on a Stage 1 with changable bells for shows so all of the bell and slide combinations can be tried out easily. I may have to take a road trip to NY just to confuse myself even more. The horn I really liked was the Stage 1 C California. When this is all said and done I might just say "Make me one of those in Bb" |

| Piano User | Okay...I'm getting somewhere with all this now...but Felix, I have a few more questions...if that's not too much to ask :-D 1. Different sized bell-what affect does a bigger bell have? Won't a larger bell make for a darker sound, i.e. flugel? What are the advantages /disadvantages of the rimless bell? Isn't it more easily damaged, i.e. a trumpet stand? Aren't there rims for a reason?...Or is it simply for protection? And, could I get the copper bell WITH a rim, if I chose? 2. Leadpipe: Reversed, nonreversed-which is better for what? My Yamaha Xeno has reversed, and I find it sometimes hard to project/sizzle in the higher register. 3. Can you put the Polished copper trim only on valve caps and bottoms, not slides? 4. Tuning slides: oval in bronze, straight in nickel silver? The oval makes articulations softer, is that true? And the bronze makes it a bit darker. But for lead/jazz, a straight with nickel silver will make it brigher? 5. What do braces on the tuning slide provide/take away? 6. Which bell flare is better for what? 126 mm or 128 mm? what effect does it have on projection/sound? Edit: 7. Felix, about the Sterling Silver leadpipe...that would make the horn have a tri-color look right? What if I wanted the leadpipe to match the brushed laquer? Is that possible? Or what would happen with that? I was thinking of mainly going brushed laquer, with the brushed copper bell, with only the valve caps and bottoms with a polished copper. Thanks for reading!! ![]() | Re: Stage 1 Trumpets...Help? I'm thinking about getting one. Dubba C, I emailed Felix, and over a couple of days, better part of a week actually, we got something gnawed out that I'd really like to own. I too found him to be a great guy. Interested in what I'm after. Accomodating. Patient. Knowledgeable. Regards, Richard Oliver |

![]() | Re: Stage 1 Trumpets...Help? I'm thinking about getting one. Russ...dubba c.... You have some great questions. You sound giddy as a school girl, which is easy when considering all the possibilities these horns have. haha. I had several models on hand for a little while and shared the experience with many of my tpt friends. The most amazing thing to witness is how different people (with different styles, mpcs, characteristics of sound) sounded on each of the horns. While there may be some components that are consistently comparable across the board (ie: valves are terrific), how they sound/feel when "you" play them is the key. It is so cool to hear what others say about the various components (metals/finishes/braces/etc)...but what will help you create the sound model in your head may be totally different. Just have some fun. Try 'em all. Then, maybe - after your head stops spinning - ha - you will be able to make an awesome decision. Very excited for you... this is cool stuff. Best of luck...
