Eh...I don't know about the op being ashamed. If it is an honest question/concern...it is just that. That's what forums like this are for. To seek answers and discuss. I think the basics of this situation are pretty well spelled out.

As long as someone isn't out for blatant attacks on an individual or company...then this kind of stuff doesn't bother me...especially since it is easily explained or refuted. I'll give the op the benefit of the doubt on this one. Hope all this clears things up.

If you have any other questions on the quality or anything else related to Stage 1 instruments...ask away...

Re: Stage-One-California after two years

Brad,

I may have been a bit extreme, but would react the same way to an open attack to any instrument building company/factory that has a good reputation...that could be Thein, Monette, Kuhn, Lechner, Schagerl, Eclipse, Spada - you name it. It does not feel right to me to attack on an open forum the reputation of a company, just because there is one instrument which has some problems with quality which may be due to many factors as I mentioned in my previous post. I still think that if there is a particular problem with a single horn (not a generality) that should be adressed privately to the maker.

Nick...you and I are on the same page. I get where you are coming from...and you are right.

I just kind of took this from an assumption of honesty...and went with the notion that the op has probably read much about Felix's horns... but then saw this one for sale... and naturally had a "gasp" moment. (without thinking of the possible causes). I think all the posters here have cleared that up. Reputation intact.

Erring on the side of humanity... I am ready, though, if there are more questions!!

Brad, I have a question. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? LOL
I think it was an innocent observation without any intent to attack NYTC. I also think the lesson is now learned. LOL they really are great horns.

An interesting thread, especially considering the OP's earlier post:

Re: Stage-One-California after two years

Garry, you're right-very interesting. I absolutely love my horn, on a side note, even with all the finish problems. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I just hope to someday have enough to redo it in scratch/polish gold combo. Of course, that's just me, being me-I'm the picky type that loves to make my horn look good as well as play like none other. I know it shouldn't matter that much, but it's just me. :) I'm kind of afraid to ask how much you guys charge for a gold plate now...after seeing the price of gold skyrocket.

I believe I used Mapquest...hahaha. and 47 years of work....ha. (sad, considering there was an 8 year old kid who was there that night to sing before us. hmmm...8 vs 47. ugh).

Re: Stage-One-California after two years

Carnegie...how I'd like to go play there...man, I'd like to enter part of my senior recital in this contest to play a piece called Voices which will premiere there in 2009, but I don't have the money for the entry fee. Plus, you have to pay your way there and back, plus 2 nights in a hotel-but hey...trust me, if I got the spot, you can bet I'd take out a loan for that experience. :)

Cornet1 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Stage-One-California after two years

To get back to the original matter,.....

I have never seen a 'Stage one' and I am not likely to since I'm a cornet player in the UK,...however, silver plate should last much better than this even with acidic hands. Either there is another factor going on here or the siver plate was not of a quality comensurate with the instrument, which I understand is a 'pro' trumpet.

I have very acidic hands especially when tense during band contests and concerts but on decently plated instruments I have never had a problem or seen anything similar. My everyday 'blow' is about 25 years old and still has excellent plating. In my band we have several instruments made over 20 years ago and they are all OK apart from where the plating has actually worn away.

We do have a replated cornet (due to an insurance matter) which has some flaking and this is aparently due to the surface being less than the required cleanliness when the second plating was applied.

Re: Stage-One-California after two years

Come on guys - this is a single example of a used Stage 1. If I knew the serial I could tell you more, but if it was one of Felix's original Eclipse-built prototypes, a lot of people have played it. And the seller doesn't mention what the condition was when he bought it...

Silver plating does fail on occasion, and scratch finishes are not very durable to start with. I can't guess the OP's intention for this thread, but I strongly suspect there's more here than meets the eye.
