I also have a 37 strad and it plays beautiful in all registers.I believe that any quality pro horn could be played by any quality player given the time to adjust to it.You have a horn that probably over 50% of pros play.Just give yourself a little time to adjust to it.Just about a month ago,I picked up a used cornet (King 605) and have been practicing the first two variations on the carnival of venice. I been doing alot of tripple and double tounging to get my speed up for the piece and my upper register the last few weeks has been very strong. It hasn't gone up but theres a feeling of power and zip there that I never experienced before.Since doing a lot of tounging, octave slurs up to high c are a breeze and the upper tone has sort of a scream to it.Has any body else experienced this feeling while concentrating on double and tripple tounguing?Anyway good luck with your new strad.

Mrmusicnotes: Your e-mail is familiar to me? Do we know each other? Anyways, if your tounging exercises are from Arbans, they are designed with intervals as well as tounging. My thoughts are the combination of the two help range greatly. Thanks for reminding me, since I have neglected this part of my practice routine, and find similar benefit!--HH

update:
Now about a month and a half after I bought the horn. It is much better than at the beginning. I find that my tone is so much "purer" for lack of better words. It just doesn't break up as easily. I still have those issues with my embouchure to work out, but that will come with practice and time. Now that I have been out of school, I can practice off and on all day. My playing always improves in the summer for that reason. Anyway, thanks to all that wished me luck and gave advice in this matter.
