Matt,
The first does not exclude the latter. As someone has already said on the forum, having the pitchfinder does not necessarili mean, that I will be using it all the time. Having a complementary device won't spare me practice time, or excuse bad playing. It may be handy to have it from time to time. That's all. This device is to be used by advanced players on good horns. A bad builded horn won't become a top notch just by adding a pitchfinder, as Robin pointed out.

That would be the 12B Coprion. As described by Conn in 1939 (courtesy of Conn Loyalist website): Built in small bore, but the seamless bell of Coprion gives it the power you would expect only from larger bore. Ease of playing, beauty of tone, accuracy of scale and amazing flexibility. Impossible to overblow or crack a note.

Back to the original topic - I'd be a big fan of this one:

I would like to see valves designed so that the player can align them properly without special tools.

From Alice In Wonderland: Alice comes to a fork in the road and meets the Chesire Cat. She asks, "Chesire Cat, which road should I take from here?" He asks, "Where do you want to go?" Alice says, "I just want to get out of here." The cat responds, "Then any road will take you there."

if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

If we're not sure what trumpet we want, any design will do.
