I "have" seen brushed horns that really "did" look plastic. (that "Shark No. 9 on the NYTC site by Adaci was one. Incredible player...but sure looked plastic) Others, though, just looked terrific. Not plastic at all.

It will be stunning in clear. Go for it, man!! (yeah..a flugel in brushed would be awesome. Maybe "that's" what you do...??!!).

btw, Dale...that Conn is a gem. wow. really looks in terrific shape. what a beauty.

Russ,
If the clear lacquer will keep the tri color then that's what I mean.

That's what I'm thinking...clear, it will probably be. Brad, I agree-the Classic Flugel on the NYTC website-that's the brushed lacquer...maybe if I get one of those, it will be brushed :) But this one, I think, is going to be clear lacquer. That seems to be the best choice right now, anyway...

VINTAGEBRASS is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Well here it is...my California Custom is done!

My thought would be to silver plate the body and leave the bell and the other copper parts in a polished or brushed lacquer.

Re: Well here it is...my California Custom is done!

Vintage, not a bad idea. I see on Felix's website that he has a picture of a horn with silver and copper trim. Interesting idea though. I'll most likely go with a clear lacquer, but I'm still open to thoughts. As it is, I'll post my thoughts whenever I get the horn. It will probably be next week. Here's hoping Garry sends it out tomorrow, maybe I'll get it Monday...

Re: Well here it is...my California Custom is done!

Laquer will change the playing characteristics a little, but I dont think so much it would be bad. I eat through laq. quickly, so it is a tough road for me. I am still leaning at Bright Goild or Raw.

I agree some of the brushed horns look great, and some look like toys.

No matter what it is a great horn.

Right...that's the picture I was using to compare the two-makes it really hard to choose! Even though mine would have polished accents, you get the idea. I'm still thinking clear lacquer is the way to go though.
