I'm not sure about the leadpipe-that would probably not be clear-lacquered over? Trent, I agree-if I can save up the cash, I might just go with satin gold/polished accents. But, I just don't know how long it will take me to come up with the extra 650 or whatever it is. But yes, that thought had really crossed my mind. What about doing what Rowuk said, except with satin gold? then leave the bell and caps/buttons polished copper?

![]() | Re: Well here it is...my California Custom is done! Satin Gold is very cool, but I wonder how it is to maintain. I know they basically scratch the brass before they plate to make the finish, I wonder if dirt and stuff would get in the scratches? I am still leaning towards bright gold, but had thought very hard about satin gold. A WHAT TO DO!! I feel your pain dudes. |

| Piano User | Re: Well here it is...my California Custom is done! lol no kidding! Like mentioned in the Cali light thread, I'm not sure. I'm afraid that my hands will eat through the lacquer quickly, I know they did with raw brass. I'll have to ask Chuck how it is to maintain satin gold. I don't think anything would get in there, especially if they plate it after scratching it.

Those always make me laugh...while I'm sure they are great instruments...they still make me laugh. :) I think at this point the choices are lacquer, scratch gold/polished accents, and raw-I'm wondering though, if I kept it raw, whether the copper would turn even if I did polish it regularly.
