Veld,

You can get a 2000LT or an XLT for just under $6000. If they sell the "Non-Prana" MF horn it would be about the same price. The 2000LT and XLT are very light and designed for commercial playing. I have a 2000LT Bb and it is great for that kind of playing. The Prana versions are great, but you can still have a great Monette trumpet for much less.

Now THAT could almost be a new thread! I'll let Manny or someone else answer this question...

Okay, to keep it on-topic : Is the Prana version an adjustment of the normal version, or is it a completely different way of building the same horn?

I believe it is a lot of both. The metal used in the horns is different - softer I believe. And there may be a lot of internal adjustments. I don't know the specifics - and I don't believe many people do. The results can be heard. Listen to a recording of Wynton Marsalis - any one of them, and then listen to his album "Magic Hour." He's like this whole new player - sound, range, the whole package!

But like I said before, I'll leave the specifics of the Prana equipment to someone else. There's some brief info about the stuff on his web site www.monette.net, but nothing too revealing. Perhaps if you called the shop and told them you were writing an article they would open up a little about what's happening with the Prana's!

Manny talks about it in other threads... do a search. Its vague though. Not many people really know.

I really wish I could afford one, but even I have limits to what I can spend on a horn. Its a sacrifice and difficult to have two in my arsenal.. both were under 6K.

I think there would be a lot more Pranas sold if they were only 1000 more than the nons. Also, part of me wishes they would have just added the new technology to every horn with a modest price raise... but the story is they take considerably longer to build. Oh well.. wishful thinking.

I havne't played one yet, but have a close friend who owns one and he raves about it.

I have seen 1 old Monette conversion in my life. It was on a Bach C Trumpet. I noticed a Monette leadpipe and it was a tunable bell (don't no if Monette did the bell) I forget what else was done to it.
