Amati,
Yeah, I know.... but it's all I could afford, Besides I can get a pretty good sound out of it and the intonnation isn't bad either. All in all its a great horn for the price.

Re: What is your main piccolo?

I play The Burbank Trumpet, which was Zig Kanstul's copy of a Benge. It started off as a decent pic and then a recently got a Pilczuk pipe for it and it is absolutely unbelievable. It plays better in tune than any big horn I've played and has a nice, sweet sound.

I have one, too. serial number 010075. Bought in about 1985-6

It never tarnishes. I wonder if it is nickel plated?

Re: What is your main piccolo?

I got to perform on the university’s Schilke P5-4 as a soloist with the orchestra. I was one of the winner’s of their undergraduate concerto competition. I really liked the horn too and was fortunate enough to play on it for several semesters until I could afford my own piccolo trumpet, which is a Benge 4P-SP. I had to have the four valves. The serial number is 441043R. It has a bright sound to it, if that is what you are looking for. This Benge piccolo has stood the test of time, helping me through Air Force band auditions, weddings, and master classes. It has served its purpose very well.
