Ok, so what I fail to see here is why everyone is ripping Dave Monette for selling his product. Key word in that last sentence being SELL. How many of you love Amati horns? Well apparently their top horn has: "a bright, powerfull sound and a focused, easily controlled response." http://www.amati.cz/english/producti...r/atr_604H.htm
The fact is that everyone loves to claim that Dave is selling snake oil, yet I still saw many people playing and buying CNC'd one-offs of his mouthpieces made by Kanstul. However, Mr. Monette is permitted by his first ammendment rights to Free Speech. Although my opinion is slanted, I have played a Monette and I heard many of these qualities that Monette talks about in his Mouthpiece and Instrument Guide. I appreciate what Monette has done, and I enjoy it. By that definition, I am a consumer and a client of Dave Monette's. I have yet to find the need for a line of logic that questions why Amati has those things posted on their site. I also don't see a need for a string that bashes Schilke (although I have YET to play a Schilke that I like). Monette is just doing what he does best, selling. He is a salesman and without that, he would be a poor, hungry musician. Then again, without our day-to-day jobs, wouldn't we all be poor and hungry. Next time you find yourselves with stones in-hand, think about the house in which you are standing.

Monette makes good mouthpieces, i agree.
Bach also makes good mouthpieces.
Bach sells for 1/10th the price of a Monette.
God bless America!

I would rather hear a crisp, clean, brilliantly colorful sound without all the added fur. This is how I would describe Nic Paytons sound on the V1.
I don't understand "furry"
Sound is a subjective thing.

If crisp and clear is what I should sound like, should I get out my old Jet tone? I will be able to play really high easily.

I always wanted a nice mellow tone similar to a cornet but maybe I will change and take it easy.

Bach may make good mouthpieces, but like their trumpets, you'll never find two that are the same. One might say that's a good thing, that you can try several Bach 37's and 1 1/2C's and find a perfect match for you but I disagree. I think it's nice to know that if somebody runs over my Yamaha and GR with a Mack truck then I can go out and buy the same model and they'll be identical.

I have a friend with two 1C's(he uses one on C and one on Bb). They're VISIBILY different. I think that's a little comical.

Darn, I guess I just made a post about Bach and not about Monette. Oh well.

Bach has had that rep for awhile. But I think if you bought a 1C today and a 1C tomorrow, they would be the same. CNC has come to Bach. Steinway has purchased Bach (not known for crappy musical products).

Now I have made a Bach post in a Monette thread. Bringing it back around, if Kanstul can copy the Monette and makes money at $100, what is the markup at Monette? If Monette sold them for $125, Kanstul wouldn't have gone to the effort.

If the Mack truck runs over your GR, you can afford to replace it with an identical piece. Someone on the TH asked what's the difference, besides what is written, between the MFII and MFIII by Monette. Who would know? Who would buy two very expensive mouthpieces that are nearly the same, but with a different rim? Maynard would know. Somebody at Monette might. I doubt not more than a handful of players in the world have tried the two. But ask players what is the difference between a 1C and a 3C and you will get plenty of answers

I recently went to the Monette shop and they are getting on the CNC band wagon as well. They had the machine in their shop and were turning some mouthpeices on it. I'm not sure if they are selling any of the CNC pieces yet or not.

This is funny! - have you all seen this? I don't agree with the valve thing, but it gave me a chuckle...

BTW, I didn't mean Getzen valves are lower quality, just not "hand made to perfection" like the other monette parts are.
