Re: Wild Thing vs. Zeus Olympus

I have a Zeus. But i had some tweeks done to it. I really like mine. There was a little problem with intonation, but Jim Becker over at Osmun, fixed all that. Check my myspace to hear it. I will tell you this, I sent the first one back b/c the intonation was weird. I tried a WT and thought it played awesome.... figures some cat in a big band i was in got one 2 weeks after i got my zeus

I came off of a Kanstul Sig Series 1503 w a copper bell. I find that with my Monette B4, i can change colors very easy. I can post some pics if y'all want to take a look at it.

Re: Wild Thing vs. Zeus Olympus

His outside dealers are VERY cool guys, and you can generally find a ZeuS on ebay.

Alex told me I'd have to sell my Bach, since his instruments are not *just* for one venue, they demand to played in every setting. Then he hung up on me.

Re: Wild Thing vs. Zeus Olympus

AusinWinds makes a horn that takes everything about the ZeuS and WildThing and puts them into 1 horn. Its called the Stage40LT. Heavy leadpipe with light body and large 5.25" bell. Large bore with minimal bracing. You can also get a Bronze bell on the thing. I love the bronze bell horn, i can use it for EVEYRTHING. It can play like the concept TT or the MF Monette or a Mt. Vernon back to back. I love everything about it, and the company is great to work with. I HIGHLY recommend you check out AustinWinds. They are also cheaper than the ZeuS horns, and you don't have to deal with the ZacharyMusic company. The Wild thing plays like my Kanstul 1600, it only really does well with lots of energy and upper register. Rex Merriweather plays one and sounds great, then again he doesnt do much other than high-note playing. The Stage40LT feels like the Monette XLT horn when I need it, and like the Prana 3 when i need it. Its the best of both worlds. Check them out!

I don't understand the thing about not fitting in the section. Was it a section of WT trumpets? When we say "it doesn't fit in", do we mean a section of Bach trumpets? What would happen if everyone in the section played a different brand?

Re: Wild Thing vs. Zeus Olympus

I've tried many different trumpets and only liked one Bach I tried. I didn't buy that one, and when I tried other Bachs and didn't like them. So, it's an individual instrument and user combination that counts.

I've never had the opportunity to try the Zeus Olympus.

I just bought a Wild Thing from Flip and it's finally a trumpet I like. And, Flip is great to deal with. (He even solved a problem I was having with my flugel while I was there.)

But, it does take a bit getting used to because it is different with the larger bore and bell taper. I find the #1 slide better than the #2, but imagine the other slides can provide even more more surprises and versatility. It's a whole new experience.

I'm anxious to try some different mouthpieces and expect to discover more sounds. The Wild Thing has the ability to do many different things, depending on the mouthpiece, slides, and the user. I like it almost as much as my Kanstul 1525 flugelhorn, but that's a different horn entirely.
