Who cares where its made? I am sorry, it's not made in a Japanese sweat shop. I love my Yamaha, I love America, I am voting for Obama, and I approved this message.

Re: Yamaha Xeno vs. Bach Strad

I guess your horn choice also rests partly on what your goals are. If you're going to do the symphony audition thing, you won't see much else at auditions besides Bach and Yamaha. If you're more into a solo career, it's more a matter of choice, and the field is wide open. To me, the Bach 37 is a great all-around horn (assuming you get a really good one). The Xeno is OK, but I wasn't knocked over. However, if you can afford the extra cash, the Yamaha "New York" or "Chicago" Artist Models (also called Xeno) are really something to consider. The same can be said concerning the relationship between the Bach 229A C trumpet and the Yamaha Artist Model C trumpets. I have a couple of each brand and use admire them both. Good luck!

Cheers,
Chas

Re: Yamaha Xeno vs. Bach Strad

I looked at both of them and liked them both (of course I did, they're great horns). I ended up playing a Cannonball RL and preferred it to both. It seems that within our community you either love or really dislike it, but I've been really happy with it and it's in the same price range you're looking in.

I sounded slightly different on each horn and I just chose the one that gave me the best playing dynamics for how I wanted to sound.

Re: Yamaha Xeno vs. Bach Strad

I play a modified by spada Bach Strad (look my signature)...mods done by an experienced craftsman like Rene Spada or Charlie Melk may make your horn play even better. I don't think that orchestral trumpeters should limit themselves only to those 2 brands as there are many others who makes excellent orchestral horns.

I would like to try the trumpet out before buying one but if this is not possible, I would like to see if anyone has any information to share about either or both of these brands of trumpets. I have been told that Bach has a slightly better tone than Yamaha, but that the Xenos are much more consistent than the Strads, so if I were to get one online I would be better off getting a Xeno.
So, I just wanted to see what everyone on Trumpet Master had to comment about these brands.
Thanks!
Hi, if you`r still at camp try as many different brand`s as possible. Find the one you like best, as other`s have said. While both Bach and Yamaha are good there are plenty of other`s.If you must order on line find company with a good return policy. Good luck.

Re: Yamaha Xeno vs. Bach Strad

Thanks to everyone for their responses. I'm trying to look locally for a while so that I can try out the trumpet before I buy it. I'll let you know what I end up getting, whenever that happens.

And it's not necessarily correct, either. Check the serial number. Yamaha has a huge assemby plant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that produces many of their pro instruments.
