1937 Reynolds cornet

Cornet Rare F A Reynolds Gold Engraved Silver Bell Horn - eBay (item 270222736165 end time Mar-31-08 22:11:10 PDT)

Does anybody know anything about that model of Reynolds cornet?
It looks beautiful, and I was wondering if it also sounds beautiful
(not that I could ever afford it; I'm just lusting after it).

Re: 1937 Reynolds cornet

I would expect that it plays very much like the King Silver tones from that same era, since the design nearly an exact copy. Lovely engraving.

Re: 1937 Reynolds cornet

I've got 2 similar Reynolds cornets from the early 40s (22xx and 12xxx) and they both play very nicely. A professional quality horn.

I showed one to my previous trumpet teacher, who tried it and said

"How much did you pay for it? Do you want to sell it?"

which was his reaction when he played my Recording. He normally plays a strad, upon which he is an inspiration.

There are many out there who know loads more than me but I really rate the old Reynolds cornets. Havn't tried the later ones. If I had to reduce my collection to 2 horns, I go for one of the Reynolds and either the Recording or the Studio. OK. make that 3 horns

So I think if its reasonable you ought to buy it. If its a bit pricey cos its extra pretty (they are good looking) and you only want a player then you might get one on ebay for about $250 if you wait.

Any other Reynolds aficionados out there?

Re: 1937 Reynolds cornet

The engraving on that cornet is the same as on the F.A. Reynolds trumpet I was just given to sell, serial number 248. It's not in as great condition. It seems as if it had been refinished a while back and the bell had been pollished a lot, so the design isnt as 'clear' as it should be.

Re: 1937 Reynolds cornet

To think when I started in sixth grade they gave me an old Reyolds Cornet to play (Silver plate) and all I wanted was either a Tuba or Trumpet. Could get neither and now, I wish I could have that old Axe. Would really be neat.

Tuning slide on the bottom is VERY comfortable to play.
