| Re: ancient cornet on eBay That is an oldie! Note that the valves are an integral part of the tubing, which is an early cornet design feature. I bet Dale can help us nail down the time period this horn dates from.

| Re: ancient cornet on eBay I think it's actually a cornopean with Stolzel valve. I think it was an early version of the piston valve. Cornopean I don't know much else about them, but I've always wanted to try one.

| Re: ancient cornet on eBay That's what it is. How old? Who knows.... Those things were manufactured in Europe up through the early 1900's, so the antiquated design doesn't necessarily mean it's super old. The earliest ones had 2 valves, and even the ones built in the 1850's are a little more primitive than this example. My best guess would be around 1870-1880, which is still pretty old.
