![]() | Re: Besson Cornet's Hopefully Trumpetmaster can give some information on the following Besson Cornet that I have. I currently have a Besson Cornet that my Dad and I purchased in 1958 from a local music house. The engraving on the bell of the instrument is as followed: SY STEMEPROTH PE FB engraving F BESSON BREVETE SGDG 96 RUEDANGOULEME PARIS 66 HAUTES RECOMPENSES 6 GRANDSPRIX HORS CONCOURS MEMBRE DU JURY On the values side the values are numbered 16 17 18 with the serial number of 90858 The instrument is 50 years old and I had it refurburished in 1997 due to the fact that the laquerer had faded. I take it that the instrument was made in Paris, France.....but everything that I have been reading on this site, says that Besson was made in London dating back to the early 50's. The instrument has the Shepard Crook and is very easy to play. These are links to some pictures. ![]() By gat215 [img=http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9506/img0146oo5.jpg] By [url=http://profile.imageshack.us/ Last edited by t24285766; 02-17-2008 at 04:38 PM. | Mezzo Forte User | Re: Besson Cornet's Looks interesting. It is definitely French. Go to Horn-u-copia website and read the Besson section. I have never seen a French Besson Cornet, but if the serial number is the same line as the trumpet, the only list dates it to 1938 or so. Besson was a French company originally and opened a London operation early in 20th century. Very tangled history. French Besson trumpets are generally prized over the British ones. I used to have a British 8-10 cornet from 67 and still have a 55 Besson 8-10 trumpet. Hopefully, we can determine more. There is a photo of a Besson cornet on Horn-u-copia under Besson cornet with triggers. Photo of a cornet, but no id if it is British or French by the poster. In recent years , Kanstul is making Besson labelled horns, both student and pro.
