- I reckon it would be a "fair bitch" to play alongside you - particularly for those of us that have subjugated our desire for 'screaming' just to play toneful, tuneful, gentle ballads like Londonderry Air, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Summertime, What a Wonderful World, and Dixieland versions of Amazing Grace - but I will give anything a try, once.

I hope you find the horn of your dreams.

I like to do both,
which is why I have a deep Bach 7 (no letter) for playing low ballads on my .485 bore Conn 5A cornet (achieves a semi-flugel tone),
and I am looking for a Conn trumpet for screaming with my shallow Weril W46 mouthpiece.
Why choose one or the other when you can choose both?

Plus, I have noticed that warming up and doing scales and songs up to High F will then increase my flexibility and control for playing low ballads that top out at only top-line F (if I rest a few minutes in-between).
If I neglect high register playing for a while then I lose some of my low-register flexibility so that I cannot slur as well on slow, soft ballads.
That might be due to the challenge of playing a fairly deep Bach 7 (no letter) with a .485 bore cornet?
I don't remember having that flexibility challenge when I was playing a .460 bore Holton cornet.

I have been trying to figure out for some time a definitive answer to the original question about the real difference between the Connstellation and the 6B Victor; aside from the obvious first valve trigger. I had a friend back in school that played beautifully on a nickel plated connstellation. I played that horn and experienced it's fine quality. I couldn't understand why there were 25 Bachs in my school band with so many other choices available? Sheep I guess.. Anyway, a year ago or so I went looking for a suitable horn to play in a community band. When I came across a very clean silver Victor I snatched it up. I am convinced it is the best horn I could have bought for the price. It has the look, the feel, and the sound of my old friend's connstellation that I was so impressed with. I have yet to do a side by side comparison but I have decided for myself that it is virtually the same horn. Are there any conn enthusiasts out there who actually have done a side by side of these two horns?
