Re: Cornet ?

i have over 700 feedbacks with only one negative. I can't offer a fair price if I don't have a clue what it is worth, so I figure selling on ebay is my best option and then just providing a link to it on the other websites.

Re: Cornet ?

You can do some research at this website:
http://www.hnwhite.com/

You need to post the serial number so that we can see the age of the Cornet. I'm not an expert but I do like the King line. I believe that your Cornet was made between 1900 and 1960 something. This alone does not make it "very expensive" we would need to assess it's condition and so forth.

I'm guessing that ballpark may be in the 400 to 600 dollar range but it may be higher or lower. It just depends on the finish of the horn, it's age, and playing condition.

Hope this helps.

Goodness, yes, that's enough feedback. Just post good pictures, start the auction at $1 and watch it bid-up.

Since you're to selling cornets, take your pictures with no flash. Generally working in open shade with a sheet as a backdrop is a practical way to get sharp trumpet photos without flash reflections. Take a shot of the serial number and pull the slides out in one photo to show that they're not stuck. Show a picture of the valves.

Re: Cornet ?

I would hope there might someday be a reputable appraisal-service for musical instruments.

Vintage and "collectables" (collect-ibles?) are increasingly appearing on the online auction, eBay. This may be a good indicator of general values.

However, each instrument, especially older ones ... may have special features and/or "issues" that greatly affect value.

I am fortunate in having a real "expert" available to me (via private phone number) for vintage stringed-instruments. He came through "with flying colors" not long ago, when I "stumbled" upon a vintage Gibson MasterTone banjo, in Virginia's Shenendoah Valley, at an old music store.

He never charges me, as we are old friends, and he "allows" me to play his 1929 Gibson F-5 Lloyd Loar mandolin (value -- $200,000 !!).

However, he does normally charge most everyone else for appraisals; and rightly so. Major insurance companies that specialize in vintage instruments recognize him, and accept his appraisals.

Someday (??) ... perhaps we'll have someone (or, a registered appraisal entity) that will appraise horns. Expect to pay for this. It is only right.

Robt
